WLSSD increases to be passed along
Proctor sewer customers will be paying about 23 percent more for wastewater beginning January 1, 2008.
Rates will increase $3.01, from $9.98 to $12.99, for all sanitary sewer users.
The last increase was in 2006 when rates went up $4.25.
The rate adjustment is estimated to raise $43,000. Proctor’s sewer budget for 2008 is $498,320.
It’s bill from WLSSD is $231,280 annually or $19,273 a month. The amount represents an increase of $8,469 or 3.66 % over 2007.
During the past two years, the number of new sewer customers has increased by 31 to 1,125.
Proctor’s strategy has been to review rates annually, but increase rates every three years. The fund will still have a positive balance despite WLSSD’s increase.
Council noted that the I&I (Inflow and Infiltration) surcharge of $4.50 a month, that began in 1998, would expire in August 2008, 16 months earlier than the extension originally scheduled. The surcharge was set to expire in 2003, but was extended.
