Julia Gilbert and Jami Weiss pounded home goals in the first and second periods, respectively, to lead the Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall girl’s hockey game to a 2-1 home-opener win over Hibbing-Chisholm at the Proctor Arena on Tues. Nov. 13.

Elly Power assisted on Gilbert’s goal, while Gilbert and Brooke Morin had assists to Weiss. The Bluejackets got on the board late in the second period with the final goal of the game. Mirage netminder Katie Gilderman had 9 saves, while the PHM offensive machine forced Kaye Collier of H-C to stop 41 shots.

A trip up the shore two days later saw the Mirage topple the Silver Bay Area team 4-1. Weiss powered in the first two PHM goals (Gilbert assist on the first), and Elly Power got the fourth (assisted by Sarah Edgerton). Weiss may have gotten the third Mirage goal, too (stats were unclear; Gilbert and Power assisted). If so, Weiss scored her first hat trick of the 2007-08 season.

Jen Coyle took her turn in goal and recorded 21 saves in a relatively even shooting match that saw the SBA goalie stop 26 shots.
