Four Rails in double figures as Girls BB opens with loss to ME
By: The Sports Guy
Despite four Rails getting into double figures and an impressive second half surge that nearly tied the game, Proctor fell to Mesabi East 57-61 in a home game on Thurs., Nov. 29.
For the first half, Proctor looked exactly like the team it is: young and adjusting to a new coach and system. The Giants, behind the stellar play of Jessie Larson and Alyssa Lund, who both scored 20 points, roared to a 33-13 advantage by halftime.
But in the second half, Proctor fans were treated to an exciting comeback as head coach Brian Masterson rallied his team to come within 4 points late in the second half. But despite nearly ten minutes of edge of the seat anticipation, the Rails couldn’t close the gap with last minute three-point attempts and the Giants made key shots and freethrows to hold on for the hard-fought and well-earned win. Proctor outshot ME 44-20 in the second half. Cassie Ohme led the Rails with 17 points, followed by the double figures efforts of Andrea McKay (12), Skyla Robertson (11), and Katy Mickelson (10). Rounding off scoring for the Rails was Kara Cloutier with 3 points, and Nicole Lind and Katie Amundson with 2 apiece.
