Motorized chair driver jailed

Proctor Journal

The man arrested and charged with a DWI on a motorized chair was jailed for violating his probation.

Dennis LeRoy Anderson was taken into custody last Tuesday when St. Louis County Probation and Parole officials, along with a Proctor Police officer, paid a surprise visit at his home at 9:25 p.m.

Anderson admitted to having a couple of drinks. According to the police report, he failed a sobriety test, registering 0.279 percent on a PBT (Preliminary Breath Test), more than three times the legal limit. He is required to abstain from alcohol and submit to random testing as terms of his probation.

Anderson was taken to the County Jail.

Last month, Sixth Judicial District Judge Heather Sweetland sentenced Anderson to 180 days in St. Louis County Jail or the Northeast Regional Corrections Center. He was also fined $2,000, plus court fees, and fitted with an electronic monitoring device for 30 days. However, Sweetland stayed half of the fine and then stayed the jail time for two years of supervised probation.

Anderson pleaded guilty to operating the motorized chair, while intoxicated, in August 2008, after hitting a parked car. His blood-alcohol content was 0.29 percent. His driver’s license was revoked due to a previous drunken-driving conviction.
