Henriksen: Soccer, school & family
Amber Henriksen is this week’s First National Bank Academic All-Star. She is the daughter of Shane and Amy Henriksen.
Amber’s favorite class is Hooked on Fiction with Mrs. Julie Stauber. She writes, “I like to read and talk about books in class. I like how nice Mrs. Stauber is. She is in a good mood almost every day and stays positive even on her bad days. I’m never scared to talk to her because she is really friendly and always has a smile on her face when she says ‘hi.’”
Henriksen plans to attend Lake Superior College, perhaps transferring to UMD after two years. She may study Electrical Engineering or Radiology Technology. She says her long-term goal is to stay on a soccer team after high school. She would also like to have a good-paying job in order to support her happy family, and maybe have twins.
Amber is active in AYSA and competitive soccer. She played varsity soccer and was on the varsity swim team. She enjoys juggling a soccer ball, playing pool, ping pong, foosball, camping, wakeboarding and hanging out with friends.
Being in the talent show in 9th grade is a moment to remember for Amber. She and a couple of friends sang “Turkey in the Straw,” wearing braids and overalls.
Ms. Stauber writes, “Amber has been in a few classes of mine over the past few years. I can always count on her friendly, positive attitude. She is a conscientious student and a cooperative member of any group. I feel lucky to have gotten to know her.”
Her parents write, “From the day we brought you home, and through all of the years, you have shown us how special you are – not just smart and talented, but so nice and kind and fun to be around. We’ve tried to give you the tools you need to survive and succeed. Even though it is time for you to make a life of your own, we’ll be here if you ever need a booster or stumble along the way. Love, Mom and Dad.”
