Rails CC teams ready for annual Swain races at Enger
By: The Sports Guy
If it’s the first Saturday in October, it’s time for the Swain cross-country meet. The event, held all day at the Enger Golf Course in Duluth, traditionally hosts runners of boys’ and girls’ teams from nearly 100 high schools throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Canada. Proctor will enter a team in the boys’ varsity and teams and individuals in various other races for both sexes.
An unseasonably warm and sunny day greeted runners at the Hibbing Rotary Invitational, held at the Hibbing Municipal golf course on Thurs., Sept. 27. Proctor tuned up for The Swain with an excellent runner-up team finish in the Class A boys varsity 5,000 meter race. The Rails scored 67 points, not far behind winner Eveleth-Gilbert’s 50 and far ahead of Virginia (102) and Esko (104). Ten schools fielded full teams in the competition. Adam Eskuri of Esko took individual honors in 17:53.9.
The Proctor girls ran to a solid finish in the 4,000 meter varsity race. The Rails placed 7th with 169 points. Cook County-Two Harbors won the team title with 58 points over runner-up Ely (72).
No individual stats were available for the Proctor finishers in either race.
