County Fair under way
The 88th So. St. Louis County Fair opened its five-day stand yesterday. Admission to the fair is $3 for adults. Kids under age 6 are free. Parking is free.
Today, Thursday, will be the first full day of activity at the fair.
Judging of exhibits and the 4-H horse show get under way. Carnival rides will begin at noon.
Lumberjack Show
The All American Lumberjack show will feature eight pro events. Times are 2, 4 and 6 p.m. on Thurs., Fri. and Sat., and 1, 3 and 5 p.m. on Sun.
The Enduro will be held at the racetrack at 7 p.m. Four trophies will be awarded.
Friday
Kiddies Day
Friday will be Kiddies Day with events, races, and drawings. Tricia & the Toonies will hold shows at 12:30, 2 and 3 p.m. The puppet, music entertainment and interactive comedy are free in the hockey arena.
At noon, the free pony and draft horse show will be in the arena, and the carnival will open.
Kids Pedal Tractor Pull
The Kids Pedal Tractor Pull begins at 4:30 p.m. The 4-H Dog Show starts at 6 p.m. in the Hockey Arena.
Wargin Remembered with Draft Horse Event
Chancey Wargin, who died May 15, 2008 at the age of 76, will be honored with the first Chancey Wargin Memorial Draft Horse Pull Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tentatively, 11 entries are listed to compete. There will also be a Harness Demonstration and a Horse Breed Parade. The event is free.
Wargin was synonymous with The So. St. Louis County Fair, Federation of County Fairs, and Minnesota State Fair Board.
A joyful noise will echo through the fairgrounds with Karaoke Friday evening.
Saturday
An open horse show begins at 8 a.m. until 3. An Open Dog Show starts at 10 a.m. in the Hockey Arena. There is no charge for either event.
Crawling and Toddler races
Crawling and Toddler races are scheduled at 3 p.m. Clip the entry form from the premium book and bring to the Fair Office before 2 p.m. Track practice begins at 2. Remember, no betting. Prices will be awarded.
The Lumberjack and Wood Carving show will be at 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
The United Truck and Tractor Pull will feature local drivers at 5 p.m. and professionals at 7 p.m. There will be Super Farm Tractors, Super Stock FWD and Semis.
The carnival opens at noon.
Sunday
The Horse Show continues at 8 a.m. Admission is free. The carnival opens at noon with ride tickets half price all day.
Outstanding Senior
The Outstanding Senior Volunteer awards program will be at 1 p.m. in the Hockey Arena, with a performance by Ray Ahlgren.
The free Lumberjack show will be at 1, 3 and 5 p.m.
The day finishes with stock car races. Hot laps begin at 5 p.m. and the races start at 5:30 p.m. There is an admission charge.
