For thirty years the North Shore town of Tofte, Minnesota has hosted a 10-kilometer race known as the Tofte Trek. For nearly one-third of those races, Proctor graduate Greg Hexum has crossed the finish line in first place. On Sat., July 4, the Esko High School principal claimed his 9th consecutive title at Tofte, winning by nearly a full minute in 35:06.4, an average of 5:38 per mile. Jordan Carlson of Inver Grove Heights finished 2nd in 36:03.9 with Duluth’s top distance runner Eric Hartmark a distant 3rd in 37:11.2. Michelle Volz of Lakeville took the women’s race in 44:32.4. Leslie Semler of Hermantown was the runner-up in 45:50.0.

Hexum’s win came off a race-record field of nearly 400 runners and representing 14 states, Canada, and the Czech Republic.
