School Board cuts $252,000


Proctor Journal

Elimination of positions, program reconfigurations along with cuts in supplies and athletic transportation are part of the budget adjustments the Proctor Board of Education made Monday.

Board members directed the administration to identify $252,000 in savings. About $420,972 in cuts were identified in 12 areas.

However, $167,797 had to be added back into the equation to provide for needed instructors and to reconfigure a program.

The nearly 1.9 percent cut reflects an approximately $145 drop in per pupil spending.

Cuts tagged and the net savings include:

• 1 Bay View probationary teacher $43,874

• 1 Caribou Lake probationary K teacher $23,374

• 1 secondary probationary English teacher $44,251

• .8 secondary Alternative teacher resignation $29,960

• 1 secondary teacher retirement $30,476

• Reconfigure behavioral program $49,515

• 1 secondary English teacher retirement $45,131

• 1 secondary teacher moved from

6th grade to secondary Math $65,383

• Bus transportation $50,000

• Supply budget cut 10% $25,572

• Athletic transportation cut 10% $6,004

• Custodian position $7,432

Total $420,972

Adjustments also included some spending. They are:

• Adding a .5 Bay View Kindergarten teacher due to incoming class size $27,999

• Adding a .5 Soc/English instructor $27,666

• Reconfiguration of supervision of 3 programs $46,749

• Replace one secondary math teacher $65,383

Total $167,797

The district cut $993,000 in early 2008. There has been $1.8 million in cuts since 2004. Total cuts to the district since 1998 total more than $2.6 million.
