2 Pike Lake Destination teams in State Tourney

Proctor Journal

After a 10-year absence, two Pike Lake Destination Imagination Teams are headed to the State Tournament.

Pike Lake Energizers won the Card-DI-ology challenge in their division.

Pike Lake Bright Dream Emitters tied for second place in the CSI: DI challenge.

The State Tournament will be held Sat., Apr. 21 in Chaska.

Also, honorable mention was given to the other two teams. Placing in the top five for the Instant Challenge Division were the “Creative Comets” and “We Rock the World”.

Destination ImagiNation is an international program dedicated to the enhancement of creative learning skills, creative problem solving, team skills, sportsmanship and knowledge of all students in competition component.

Destination ImagiNation has been introduced into the Pike Lake School after being absent for ten years.

After four months of play writing, planning, practice, creative prop and set making, the four Pike Lake teams went to the Regional DI Tournament in Duluth at Central High school on March 17, 2007.

The four teams were comprised of 25 students from the Pike Lake School ranging from third through fifth grade.

DI consists of a Team Challenge; including two side trips and often a simple machine or electrical device, and it is solved over a period of eight weeks or more. There are five competitive Team Challenges from which teams may choose, each with its own educational focus. The other piece of the DI equation is the Instant Challenge. At the Tournament, the team is given a challenge that they’ve never seen before and the materials with which to solve it.

“All the teams did a great job and showed themselves to work together and be as creative as possible,” coordinator Allison Nicolson said. “They all came out on top – learning great life lessons about team work, sportsmanship and creative thinking.”

“We especially appreciate the support of many parent volunteers,” Nicolson added. “Besides parents being team coaches, we had parents volunteer on the day of the tournament and throughout the year as our teams prepared for their presentations. Thank you parents for your help.”

“The Pike Lake Destination ImagiNation program was a success because of their dedication,” Nicolson said. “And good luck to the two DI teams going to the State Tournament in April.”
