Mickelson bound for medical work
This week’s First National Bank of Proctor Academic All-Star is Katy Mickelson.
Katy plans to attend the College of St. Scholastica next year. She would like to go into the medical field, but is undecided as to her study plans.
Katy’s favorite class was last year’s Anatomy with Mr. Glen Sorenson. “Everything we learned was extremely interesting. It is amazing to find out how our bodies work. Learning almost everything during hands-on dissections was probably my favorite part of the whole class.”
Mickelson is Student Council president, a member of NHS, Link Crew, Mallet, a Junior Rotarian, and does ushering and child care at Grace Lutheran Church. She is a captain on the soccer, basketball, and softball teams, and has played AYSA and MYSA soccer and AAU basketball. She enjoys scuba diving, sports and hanging out with her friends.
Mr. Sorenson writes, “Katy was, and is, one of those students who makes being a teacher a joy. She loves to learn and has the talent and work ethic to go far. Katy will succeed in college and contribute to society.”
Parents Joel and Lori Mickelson write, “It is hard to believe you are a senior already. We are very proud of the person you are. You are a very kind, generous, fun person. You have shown you have leadership qualities among your peers. You have endured much recently, whether it has been physically or family-related. You are a very strong-willed, competitive person. You always had to keep up with, or be better than the boys. We really love you and look forward to seeing where this life journey takes you. You deserve much success and happiness.”
