Outdoor Science and Anderson, a perfect fit

Proctor Journal

Ryan Anderson freely expresses his love for the outdoors and his urge to be outdoors as often as possible. This week?s honoree is quick to express his fondness for Glen Sorenson?s ?Outdoor Science? class, and picked it as his favorite.

?I love being outdoors and since we?re outside most of the time, it was a perfect match for me,? said Ryan.

Sorenson said of this week?s honoree, ?Ryan contributed greatly to the success of our first semester of Outdoor Sciences. His enthusiasm and work ethic are the perfect combination for learning in the outdoor setting.?

While Outdoor Science may not play a direct role in Ryan?s plans for the future, this unique educational offering is something that has taught him many lessons that he will carry through life. With hunting and fishing being two of his primary hobbies, this is particularly true.

Beginning this coming fall, Ryan is focusing on a major in Architecture at UMD. He said, ?I love to draw houses, and when out of college I hope to get a job doing so.?

While a keen student in the classroom, Ryan has many out of class activities that have both heightened his high school experience, while at the same time giving him the opportunity to give of himself to the community as a whole.

Ryan is a member of the Railway Catering Club, a group of students who have come together to learn the ins and outs of catering. He also participates in Mock Trial.

Outside of school Ryan keeps busy volunteering as a flag football coach, Little League baseball coach, and he had volunteered in the past at Nopeming.

Summers find him playing American Legion Baseball. The school year has found Ryan playing both football and baseball. That leads to his favorite high school memory, that being beating Hermantown this fall in football and regaining possession of the hammer for Proctor.

Along with outdoor sports, Ryan enjoys hanging around with his girlfriend.

Ryan?s parents, Joe and Sandy Anderson, said of their son, ?Ryan is a parents? dream. His easy going attitude and respect for those around him has helped him develop into the responsible young adult that he is. We couldn?t be prouder!?
