Sheet Metal Union may buy school
Caribou Lake Elementary to be closed at end of school year pending vote

Proctor Journal

Caribou Lake Elementary could be sold for $300,000 to the Sheet Metal Workers’ Union

if the Board of Education votes to close the school.

If the 8,000 square foot building is sold the money will be used for the proposed Pike

Lake addition.

The Sheet Metal Workers’ Union conducts their apprenticeship classes at Lake Superior

College. If the sale is finalized their programs will be transfered to the school.

Pending approval of a pair of motions and the go ahead from the Districts Finance

Committee a purchase agreement will be signed.

The Board must first move to close the school. That discussion will occur following a

public hearing Mon., Feb. 8 at 7:15 p.m. in Pike Lake school.

Those wishing to speak at the hearing may have to follow rules outlined in district

policy number 207. People wanting to speak will have to fill out a “Request to Address

the School Board” form prior to the hearing, unless the Board decides to modify the

policy. Each speaker will be limited to four minutes.

If the board votes to close the school, bids on the Pike Lake addition will be opened on

March 18 and approved on March 22.
