This week?s First National Bank of Proctor ?Academic All-Star? Azahar Aguilar is actively involved in school and with organizations throughout the community.

One of those groups is the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Anti-Racism Team, and the FUMC Youth Council.

She is involved with DECA, Drama, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Spanish Club in school. She also participated in a Fighting Back Fear Conference, which teaches self defense training.

In the realm of athletics, Azahar has been active with the YMCA Swim Team, as well as being a member of the Proctor/ Hermantown Girls Swim Team. She has spent the last couple of winters working with the boys basketball program as a student manager.

Hobbies and special interests include reading, writing, swimming, and performing in various ways.

Azahar lists Marketing II as her favorite class this year, with Jay Belcastro as teacher. She said of this class, ?I really enjoy the different projects we are able to do using what we learned last year in Marketing I. I learned so much for DECA and beyond. Mr. Belcastro knows how to make class interesting and expect more out of oneself.?

She is considering St. Scholastica or UMD for her college plans, and eventually would like the opportunity to study abroad. She is still weighing her options for a major including Education, Psychology, or maybe business, with a minor in Spanish.

She would like to help the Latino community through ESL, traveling, psychology, international relations or teaching.

Mary Plaster said of her daughter, ?Azahar has always been very determined and responsible. She is self-motivated and we try to be supportive of everything until she gets over-committed. We are very happy with her friends and teachers at Proctor High School since we moved here three years ago. ?

Azahar lives with her parents Mary and Troy Plaster in the Pike Lake area.
