Maki drawn to Engineering field
This week’s First National Bank of Proctor Academic All-Star is David Maki.
Physics, instructed by Mr. Parendo, is his favorite class this year.
“We do labs all the time, and it’s easy to understand,” David comments.
He plans to attend the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Campus.
David’s planned Major area of study is Bio-Medical Engineering, with his minor possibly being Architectural Engineering.
David is a member of the National Honor Society (Vice President), Drama, German Club and Rotary Club. He is a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow I. He belongs to St. Rose Catholic Church, where he serves Mass and co-teaches Religious Education. He also tutors before and after school.
Jim Pothast, English teacher, comments, “Last year, I was fortunate to have David as a student in American Literature. Through his contributions to class discussions, he demonstrated an integrity and morality firmly anchored in his religious beliefs. This year in Composition I, he has continued to demonstrate his maturity and his desire to strive for excellence. He is a fine, young man!”
David is also in Nordic skiing and track and field.
His special interests include Boy Scouts, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking/backpacking.
“We couldn’t be more proud of David,” remark his parents Dudley and Michelle Maki of Duluth. “He works hard to keep up his grades and still takes time to help out in the community. He sets high standards for himself and tries to be a good role model. We can’t wait to see where life will take him.”
