Golden Glove Amateur Boxing returns Thursday

Proctor Journal

Golden Glove Amateur Boxing returns with the first fight of the year this Thursday

evening at Grandma’s Sports Garden in Duluth, MN on January 21, 2010. In honor of

Zach “Jungleboy” Walters, Horton’s Gym has declared January 21, 2010 Jungle Day to

celebrate Zach’s boxing career which paved the way for increased international

recognition of the Twin Ports.

In a recent email to his fans, Zach Walter’s reflected. “Locally, I have been able to be a

part of creating a great boxing fan base in Minnesota and in the Twin Ports. Chuck

Horton and I never knew how far we'd go when we started the journey, but we set our

goals high and got to work. As a result, we have been able to pave the road for others

to rise in boxing. As an amateur boxer, I was able to win the Bronze medal at the Silver

Gloves Nationals. I won the 4-State Tournament five times, boxed at the national level

four times, and won the Upper Mid-West Golden Gloves twice. As a pro, I won the

Minnesota Light Heavyweight Title, the NABA-US Title, and the WBC-African Boxing

Union Title. All those wins came by knock out. My highest peak in the pros was

making it 12th in the world in the WBC world rankings”

Horton’s Gym celebrates Zach “Jungleboy” Walters career with a line-up of the best up

and coming prospects from the Twin Ports taking on some of the best talent from

around the state. A special tribute to Zach “Jungleboy” Walters is scheduled.

The doors for “Golden Gloves at the Garden” will open at 5:00 pm with action starting

at 7:00 pm. Ticket prices are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. $10 if you buy your
