Wendy Marie Shipley, Wendy Marie Shipley of Magnolia Drive died unexpectedly Mon., Dec. 11, 2006 in her home. She was 42.

She was born on May 25, 1964 in Duluth to Lyle and Anita (Leppi) Shipley. Wendy grew up in Floodwood and was a 1982 graduate of Floodwood High School. She attended college in Brainerd. Wendy worked as a nanny in Chicago and had been an employee of Fond-du-Luth Casino for 13 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed her dog, Kirby.

Wendy was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving family and friends, who will miss her greatly.

A memorial service was held in Bell Brothers Funeral Home, Bishop Wade Newton officiating. Inurnment at Forest Hill Cemetery, Floodwood.

Beverly H. Look, Lynne Booker of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother, Beverly H. Look. The former Stebner Road, Hermantown, resident died Wed., Dec. 13, 2006. She was 79.

She was born on Oct. 9, 1927 to George and Aletha (Smith) Hoyum. She married Gene R. Look on June 18, 1949 in Duluth. While raising her family, she worked at Marshall-Wells and later retired from the St. Louis County Laundry. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church and its Esther Circle, the Euclid Chapter 56, OES, Daughters Of The Nile.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years Gene R. on Aug. 18, 2002, brother Dean, and granddaughter Carrie.

She is survived by her other daughters Wendy (Mike) Lonetto of Duluth and Connie (Jerry) Gustofson of Hermantown, son Todd (Cherri) of Esko, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Beverly never had an unkind word for anyone and was known as “Grandma Sweetheart” by her grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Saturday in Salem Lutheran Church, Hermantown. Burial at Hermantown Cemetery.

Lois A. Clift, Lois A. Clift, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1951, passed quietly at home on Mon., Dec. 11, 2006 with family at her side. She was 73.

The Morris Thomas Rd. resident was born on April 6, 1933 to Peter and Ruth Foucault. Lois was president and CEO of LDJ Inc. and the Iron Horse. She retired as manager of Sarah Coventry Jewelry and was a bank proof supervisor. She lived life to the fullest, and pursued all endeavors with equal passion. By far, her favorite activity was playing Bingo at the Bear surrounded by friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents, sisters Mary and Susan, and brothers Babe and Willis.

She is survived by her sons David, and Jim and Michael Weir, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sister Betty, and special nephew John Dorenkamper.

A memorial service was held Dec. 14, 2006 in the Cremation Society Chapel.

Henry E. Chapman, Henry E. Chapman, who was inducted into the Proctor area Hall of Fame in September in recognition of his coaching multiple sports for 31 years at Proctor High School, where he was also athletic director for 19 years and was one of the founders of the Proctor Little League, died Tues., Dec. 12, 2006 in Coon Rapids. He was 91.

Born in Minneapolis in August 1915, Chapman graduated from South High School in 1933, where he played baseball, basketball and was a two-year captain of the swim team where he was known as the “Mighty Minnow.”

After graduating from Augsburg - his college days were delayed by the Great Depression - Chapman enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for more than three years in World War II, then joined the U.S. Naval Reserve, where he served for several more years including active duty during the Korean War.

Before going to the Proctor School District in 1946, Chapman taught and coached for one year each at McVille, N.D., and Pine River.

In his first years at Proctor, Chapman, a physical education and health teacher, was the school’s head coach in football, basketball, track and baseball and later became head swim coach as well.

Chapman was known as the “Mighty Mite” at Augsburg for his basketball ability. He was inducted into the Augsburg College Hall of Fame for his basketball ability.

When Chapman retired in 1977, he and his wife moved back to the Twin Cities and Coon Rapids, where his family lived. Chapman did not completely retire. He was a substitute teacher in Coon Rapids elementary schools for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Eleanor, children Carol (Dale) Stockman and James (Barb) Chapman, six grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

A service was held last Friday in the Church of the Epiphany, Coon Rapids.

Raymond J. Riley, Raymond J. Riley, who was born in Proctor and graduated from Proctor High School, died Tues., Dec. 12, 2006, at his Virginia home with his loving family at his bedside. He was 84.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1922, in Proctor to Mose and Marie (Sauter) Riley and grew up there. He attended U.M.D. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations, where he received the Bronze Star. On May 24, 1947, he married Patricia Hayden in Duluth. Ray had been a Virginia resident since 1967 and retired from United States Steel in 1983 after many years of service. Ray was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Virginia; Pratt-Volden-Mickelson-Anderson American Legion Post 239 of Virginia; Senior Citizens and was an instructor for AARP 55 Alive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Helen Riley, Eleanor Roehl, Gertrude Riley and Margaret Riley.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend Patricia Riley of Virginia, sons Michael (Shelley) Riley of Virginia and Peter (Kaye) Riley of Oakland, Mich., daughters Kathryn (James) Lane of Perham, Susan (Rocci) DeBreto of Britt and Mary (Dave) Mohar of Virginia, grandchildren Michael Lane, David (April) Lane, Matt Mohar, Tricia Ojanen, Mark Ojanen, Lauren Riley, Raymond Riley and William Riley, great-grandchildren Cabernett, Cooper, Courtney, and Chloe, and a sister Mildren Riley of Duluth.

A mass of Christian burial was held Friday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia with Rev. Fr. John O’Donnell as celebrant. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth.

Michael J. Fremling, Michael J. Fremling, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1984, died Sun., Dec. 24, 2006, in his home in Greenville, WI. He was 41.

Michael was born in Duluth on Sept. 2, 1965 to Rubin and Alice (Paradis) Fremling. Mike served in the US Naval Service from 1984 to 1990 in Barbers Point, Hawaii and Moffett Field, Calif. Most recently Mike was Director of Maintenance at American Eagle/American Airlines located in Marquette, Mich.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother Alice.

He is survived by his daughters Heather Lynn, Holly Lauren and Hilliary Kate Fremling, all at home, his father Ruben “Ted” Fremling of Duluth, siblings Keith (Corrine) of Superior, David of Duluth, Susie (Mike) Kunkel of Brainerd, Todd of Minneapolis, Pam (James) Augustine of Duluth, Kathy Leonard of Oconomowoc, Wis., Terry of Thief River Falls, Joey (Doria) of Hanford, Calif., and Michelle (Tammie Nelson) Fremling of Duluth, 16 nieces and nephews and his life partner and mother of his children, Jill Hatfield. Mike leaves behind many friends and relatives he met, loved, and touched during his life.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Sat., Dec. 30, 2006, in Bell Brothers Funeral Home.
