James Walter Patterson, James Walter Patterson, a Proctor Police Officer for 20 years and Proctor?s Honored Rail during the Hoghead Festival?s 25th anniversary, died Sat., Dec. 14, 2002 in his Third St. home. He was 79.

He was born in Aberdeen S.D.. He attended school in Hibbing. James was a United States Army veteran serving as an aviation engineer during WW II. He married Leonore ?Lee? Stauty in 1948. Jim was employed as an electrical engineer with DM&IR retiring in 1977, after 30 years of service. He also served as a police officer with the Proctor Police Department for 20 years, retiring in 1972. Jim was a member of the retired electricians of DM&IR, had served on the So. St. Louis County Fair Board, worked maintenance for the Proctor Hockey Arena, was a member of the Proctor Moose #1302, and a former member of the American Legion. He was named Proctor?s Honored Rail in 2000.

Survivors include his wife Lee, a daughter Sandra (Gary) Kershaw of Proctor, grandson Jonathan Larson, granddaughter Tracy (Joe) Tuma, step grandsons Jeff (Lori Tozier) Kershaw, Allan (Hye) Kershaw and Bryan Kershaw, stepgranddaughters Kari (Tim Goddard) Kershaw, Nikki (Steve Carlson) Dougherty and Amanda (Luke) McKay, two great-grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren, and his dog Spotty.

Burial was at Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Frank G. Jugasek, Frank G. Jugasek, who was born in Proctor and remained a lifelong resident, succumbed to cancer after an 18-month battle. He was 72.

The South Ugstad Road resident was born to John and Eleanora (Rogowski) Jugasek in 1930. He attended Proctor schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1946-48. Upon discharge from the Army he joined the Minnesota Air National Guard. He had been employed by the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway for 31 years, retiring as a carman in 1981. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Proctor Moose Lodge #1302, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees and AARP. He was a retired member of the Proctor Volunteer Fire Department serving for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Leo, Stanley, William and Joseph.

He is survived by his sisters Helen (Frank) Nosek of New York and Eleanor (Louis) Brassard of Proctor and many nieces and nephews. His family wishes to express its thanks to St. Luke?s Hospice, for the wonderful care he received.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. Memorials to St. Rose School would be appreciated. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Daniel J. ?Dan? Ellefson, Daniel J. ?Dan? Ellefson who was a 1966 Proctor High School graduate, died Thurs., Dec. 12, 2002 in a Duluth Hospital. He was 54.

He was born in 1948 to Boyd and June (Graham) Ellefson. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth. He married Susan Masterson in 1966 in Duluth. He was employed in the insurance industry and worked at the former Duluth Decorators. He was a member of the Duluth Harbormasters Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Boyd.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Susan of Hermantown, daughter, Melissa Ellefson of Duluth; son, David (Jennifer) of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren, Hailey, Julia and Benjamin; and niece Michele (Mark) Sundstrom of Proctor.

Mike Price, Services were held for former educator and PUC Commissioner Mike Price. He died Sat., Dec. 21, 2002 as a result injuries he received in a car accident the day before. He was 78.

Mike was born in Carson Lake, Minn. He was a 1942 graduate of Hibbing High School and earned a master?s degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He married Virginia Marden in 1949. He began his teaching career in Port Wing, Wis., and taught at Proctor High School from 1959 to 1986. Mike served in the U.S. Air Force in WW II. He was a member of Mala Gospojina Serbian Orthodox Church, past commander of American Legion Post 106, and past member of the Proctor Public Utilities Commission. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and deer hunting.

Mike was preceded in death by his daughter Michele Anderson, his parents, and sisters Millie Lavos, Rose Price and Angie Rajacich.

He is survived by his wife Virginia and son-in-law Mark Anderson, both of Proctor, daughter Peggy (Dave) Johnson, Duluth, grandchildren Jared Anderson of Proctor, Beth (Tony) Hanni of Cromwell, Riley and Emily Johnson of Duluth, brother Daniel (Rose) Price of Portland, Ore., sister Mary (Bud) Meadows of Hibbing, and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral and Cremation Services.

Eileen D. Thesenvitz, A private memorial service will be held in the spring for the family of Eileen D. Thesenvitz, formerly of Proctor. She died Sun., Dec. 8, 2002, peacefully in her home in Spokane, Wash. She was 76.

Survivors include her children Irene D. Scott of Kerrick, Paul V. (Mary) Thesenvitz of Embarrass, Ruth E. Foucault of Duluth, Nancy (Jonathon) Kusler of Mt. Vernon, Wash. and Dale (Hilda) Thesenvitz of Melbourne, Fla., a brother, a sister, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Frieda Elizabeth Ahlgren, Frieda Elizabeth Ahlgren, who owned and operated the Sunset Cottages and was an area resident for over 50 years, died, Sat., Dec. 21, 2002 in Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 90.

Frieda was born in Two Harbors to William and Anna (Carlson) Larson in 1912. She was raised in Culver and graduated from Alborn High School. She married Stanley A. Ahlgren in 1932. They lived in Munger until 1948 when they moved to Adolph. They moved to Little Grand Lake in 1961. Frieda was a cook in the Munger School during the 1940?s and belonged to various women?s clubs in Munger for many years. She was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church in Munger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Stanley A. in 1992; two brothers Andrew and Carl Larson.

Surviving are sons Raymond (Joann) of Proctor, Floyd (Carole) of Floodwood and Maynard of Eugene, Ore.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 12 noon until the 1:00 p.m. service today (Thurs.) in Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W. Burial will be at the Solway Cemetery.

Violet A. Malec, Former Proctorite Violet A. Malec, nee Gerber, died Sat., Dec. 7, 2002, in Chicago. She was 84.

Violet was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisc.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, twin sister Margaret ?Daisy? Fransk, brothers William, Victor and Walter, and granddaughter Colleen Rochon.

She is survived by sons John (Arlene), Joseph and Robert (Diane), daughters Nancy (James) Mroczka and Mary (James) Rochon, all of Ill., brothers Robert (Caroline) of Nevada, Herbert (Gayle) Gerber of Duluth and Frank (Margaret) Malec of Proctor, sisters Audrey Cloutier of Duluth and Elizabeth (Reno) Backus, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Chicago.
