Vernon Carlyle Wilson, Vernon Carlyle Wilson, lifelong resident of the Duluth - Proctor area, passed away Sun., Nov. 13, 2005, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was 84.
He was born July 13, 1921, in Duluth, to Clyde and Alice Wilson. Vernon was a 1938 graduate of Denfeld High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1943, as a Combat Engineer. Vernon was a strong, supporter of the Disabled American Veterans Association and an active member of American Legion Post 71.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter Barbara Olson.
Vernon is survived by his wife Alma, son W. Duane (Karen) Wilson, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will not be held at this time. Inurnment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery
Leon Douglas Overom, Leon Douglas Overom, who was born in Proctor, was a 1942 graduate of Proctor High School and started his career with the Proctor Water and Light, died peacefully on Wed., Nov. 9, 2005, surrounded by his family. He was 81.
The Burnsville resident was born on Oct. 7, 1924, to Melvin and Blanche Overom. He studied aircraft mechanics at the Aero Industries Technical Institute in Burbank, Calif. Leon served in World War II and was awarded several medals including a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Upon his return from the war, Leon attended the Duluth Jr. College for Engineering and then the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. He was united in marriage with Joanne M. Overom (nee Hedeen) on Nov. 26, 1949. After working for the PWL he spent 34 years as an Electrical Engineer at Minnesota Power and Light. He was a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and the Kiwanis Club in Duluth. Leon enjoyed reading, playing cribbage and bridge.
He is survived by his loving wife Joanne of Burnsville, sons Tim (Jackie) of Burnsville and Steve (Julie) of Barnes, Wisc., twin daughters Lisa of Bloomington, and Laura (Craig) Joseph of Wayne, N.J., five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter
Services were held earlier in the week. Burial at Oneota Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
Warren W. ‘Bud’ Peterson, Warren W. ‘Bud’ Peterson, who was born in Proctor attended Munger elementary school and graduated in 1939 from Proctor senior high school and spent his career at the DM&IR Railroad, passed away Monday Nov. 14, 2005 in Chris Jensen Nursing Home. He was 84.
The Swan Lake Road resident was born on May 3, 1921 to Alfred and Ruth (Hennings) Peterson. In 1939, right after high school, Warren started to work for the DM&IR Railroad and in 1942 served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator during the China Burma Theatre and drove trucks on the Burma road during World War II. After the war, Warren came back in 1945 and continued on with his career at the DM&IR Railroad. On May 28, 1948, Warren married the love of his life, Velda Leatham in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Warren was very devoted to his wife Velda for 57 1/2 years and his family for a lifetime. With his appreciation for a good golf game, Warren was very proud at the age of 82, to have hit a ‘Hole In One.’
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Davis; and his great granddaughter, Lillian P. Peterson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 1/2 years, Velda of Duluth; two sons, Kent (Tina) of Duluth, Brian (Sandy) of Warrenville, Ill.; two daughters, Barbara (Eric) Chase of Mountain Home, Alaska, Sharon Peterson of Provo, Utah; 18 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren, two brothers, Marvin (Jean) of Hermantown, Minn., and Marlin of Banning, Calif.; and two sisters, Marion (Tony) Hargreaves of Lexington, Ky., Arlene (Richard) Hart of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.
Service was held Saturday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery, Hermantown. Military honors were accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guards.
Herbert Lundberg, Herbert Lundberg, formerly of Adolph and who retired from the DM&IR railroad, died Thurs., Nov. 24, 2005 at Mercy Health Care Center in Moose Lake. He was 82.
He was born May 15, 1923 in Adolph to Erick and Mary (Gulbranson) Lundberg. Herb married Betty Fairbanks June 21, 1944 in Adolph. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and traveling with his wife after retirement.
Herb was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2004, and numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his sons Larry of Clarkston, Wash. and Brian (Peggy) of Moose Lake, daughters Susan of Hastings, Kim (Scott) Thudin of Cromwell, and Missy (Lonnie) Seipel of Maiden Rock, Wis., nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held last Tuesday.
