Burton D. Magnuson, Burton D. Magnuson, who was raised in Proctor, was a 1943 PHS graduate and lived in the area most of his life, died Sat., Oct. 28, 2006 in the Benedictine Health Center. He was 81.

He was born on May 4, 1925 in Two Harbors to Arthur and Esther (Nordskog) Magnuson. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Burt was owner and operator of Magnuson Lakeside Pharmacy from 1963 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Euclid Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Duluth, and AAD Temple of the Shrine and its Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a member and past president of the Minnesota Pharmacists Assn., past member of the Minnesota Department of Health Board of Directors, past Board member of North Shore Bank of Commerce and the A.R.C.H. Committee. Burt was also involved in many other community activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Nancy, a son, three daughers, ten grandchildren, two brothers, and several other relatives.

Visitation from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. Memorial Service today, Thursday in Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Rev. Sharon Johnson and Rev. Roger Waid officiating.

Betty M. Anderson, Betty M. Anderson, a longtime Proctor resident, passed away Sun., Oct. 22, 2006 in White Community Hospital, Aurora with her family at her side. She was 64.

Betty was born in Proctor on May 5, 1942 to Edwin and Mary Anderson. She was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Proctor, until moving to Virginia with her daughter Julia approximately 13 years ago. Betty was well known for her love and affection toward others. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, had many friends and always enjoyed visiting with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Jimmy.

Survivors include her daughter Julia (Greg) Shanks, grandson Daqari Shanks, brothers Walter, David and Charlie, sisters Norma and Mabel, an aunt Gloria Dart, and numerous uncles and cousins.

Funeral service was held last week in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Proctor. Burial in Bethany Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Betts, Dorothy M. Betts, who volunteered many hours in the Munger School Library, died Mon., Oct. 16, 2006 in Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 82.

She was born Dec. 5, 1923 in Two Harbors and grew up in Finland, Minn. Prior to her life as a homemaker, she was employed by Sears Roebuck and St. Luke’s Hospital. Dorothy married Edward R. Betts on Aug. 9, 1945 in Findlay, Ohio. In 1995, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donald and Eugene, and husband Edward in 1996.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Russell (Patricia) of Duluth and David (Diana) of St. Paul, daughters Nancy (Dennis) Rice of Channel Islands, Calif. and Bette Betts Murphy of Golden Valley, grandchildren Kevin (Jody) Betts of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kristine (Michael) Feiro of Duluth, Thomas Betts of Minneapolis, Sherri (Dale) Greaves of Indianapolis, Ind., Stephanie, Nicole, and Erin Betts of St. Paul, and Ian Murphy of Golden Valley, great-grandchildren Culley, Hayley, Hannah and Jacob, sister Maryen (Harold) Brotherton of Duluth and special friends Joe and Jean Pessenda.

Services were held last week in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Duluth Heights. Burial at Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors.

udrey Marie Lasky, Ross (JoAnne) Lasky of Saginaw is mourning the death of his mother, Audrey Marie Lasky. She died Tues., Oct. 17, 2006 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation. She was 73.

A lifelong Duluthian, she was born Aug. 13, 1933 to Frank and Marie Christine (Meier) Tarnowski. Audrey was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She married David Lee Lasky on April 1, 1952 in Mt. Olive English Lutheran Church. Audrey and her husband owned and operated the Central Entrance Dairy Queen for 47 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Mt. Olive English Lutheran Church.

Audrey was preceded in death by her father, and by her husband David on March 10, 2003.

Survivors include her other children Steve (Patricia) and Joddi (Michael) Polzin, both of Duluth, mother Marie Lane of Duluth, siblings Jerry (Joan) Tarnowski, Ron (Mary) Tarnowski, Mike (Mary) Johnson, and Bob (Chris) Johnson, all of Duluth, grandchildren John, Brian, David (Heidi), Anne (Andy), Samuel, Sally, and Reed, and her great-grandson Owen.

Funeral service was held Saturday in Mt. Olive English Lutheran Church. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Gerald F. Berg, Gerald F. Berg of Duluth, formerly of Cypress Drive, died Fri., Oct. 20, 2006. He was 91.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1915. During World War II he served with the Army. Gerald worked as a mechanic for St. Louis County until 1980. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, AFSCME Local 66, Senior Coalition, Minn. Senior Federation, life member of the Elks, and was over a 50 year member of the American Legion.

Gerald was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; brothers, Alver, Carl A., Fred Roland, and Donald Berg, sisters Zelda House and Ingred Williams, and niece Sharon Kuehn.

He is survived by his wife Lillian, sister Sylvia Warner of Gallatin, Tenn., and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was Monday in Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity. Burial at Park Hill Cemetery.

Raymond G. Erickson, Raymond G. Erickson, who was born in Proctor in 1925, died Tues., Oct. 17, 2006.

He married Carolyn Low Gardiner of Racine, Wisc. in 1951. He grew up in Superior and attended high school there. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific. He attended Columbia University, where he received a M.S. degree in journalism. In 1951, Erickson joined Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., as editor of the employee newspaper. In 1968, he joined Northeast Utilities, Hartford, Conn., as assistant to the chairman and president. In 1975, he was named Director of System Communications at NU. Among his other duties, he was spokesman for the Connecticut-based utility and directed nuclear information activities for the company’s Connecticut Yankee and Millstone nuclear plants. In 1980, Erickson joined Minnesota Power as Vice President of Public Affairs. Erickson was a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Federated States of Micronesia, 1993-95.

He has two sons and two daughters, Robert Raymond Erickson of Tonawanda, N.Y. and William Scott Erickson of Proctor, Vermont, and two daughters Susan Catucci of Weston, Conn. and Lynn Siebrandt, Glendale, Ariz.

A private family service was held in his honor.
