Faye Evelyn (Newton) Angell, Faye Evelyn (Newton) Angell, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1938, died Mon., Sept. 22, 2008, in Heritage Haven surrounded by her family. She was 88.
Faye, of Duluth and formerly of Hermantown for 50 years, was born in Dundas, Minn., on June 8, 1920, to Jay and Mabel (VanGuilder) Newton. On July 8, 1939, she married Howard T. “Doc,” “Cubby’’ Angell in Proctor. She was a member of the Arrowhead Poetry Society and the Arrowhead Hook Crafters Guild.
Faye is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Howard, in 1996; her daughter Judith, in 2007; her sisters, Ruth, Gladys and Shirley; and her brothers, Ted and Donald.
She is survived by her son, Gerry (Mary) of Kimberling City, Missouri.; her daughters, Joan (David) Johnson of Duluth and Jacquelyne “”Jackie’’ (James W.) Carlson of Green Bay; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 12 great- great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, in Bell Brothers Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Solway Cemetery.
Carl E. Sjodin, Carl E. Sjodin, of Proctor, passed away Sept. 24, 2008. He was 93.
He was born in Edmonton, Canada on Oct. 31, 1914 to Ivar and Anna Sjodin. He grew up on Raleigh Street. Carl was a World War II veteran. He was employed by Coolerator and U.S. Steel’s Morgan Park Works. He was an avid gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; sister, Eileen and brothers, Bill and Ernie.
Carl is survived by his children, Peter (Jan) of Fountain Valley, California, Elsie Sjodin and Carl (Ardy) Sjodin; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration of life was held Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 in the Proctor Moose Lodge 1302. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Duane L. Burton, Duane L. Burton, who lived and farmed in Midway Township for the majority of his life, passed away on September 15, 2008. He was 70.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adeline and Otto Dietz and Gordon Burton; and brother-in-law, Phillip Cobb.
Duane is survived by his brothers and sisters, Mary Ann Cobb, Angeline (Richard) Jurena, Nancy (Marshall) Puumala, Lawrence (Penny) Dietz, Victoria (Thomas) Pettet, Carl Dietz and Linda (Bruce) Hollinday; other relatives and special caregivers and Glenn and Nora Renne.
Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.
