David G. Terry, David G. Terry of Ogston Drive, Grand Lake Township, died Wed., Aug. 16, 2006. He was 67.
He was born on March 2, 1939 to John Eugene and Blanche Louise Terry in Mitchell, Indiana. David married Dolores Ann Acton on Dec. 21, 1957 in Corydon, Ind., and joined the U.S. Air Force in June 1958. He served in many foreign countries and retired in 1981 at the rank of Master Sergeant. He was stationed in Duluth in 1970, where he was a Radar Technician at the Air Base. David was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Mitchell, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his father John Eugene and a brother Phillip.
He is survived by his wife Dolores Ann, daughters Ginger (Jordan) Johnson of Duluth and Cheryl (Rick) Charles of Aurora, Colo., son Greg Terry of Sweetwater, Texas, his mother Blanche Terry of Mitchell, Ind., brothers Don (Pat) Terry of Bedford, Ind. and Ralph L. Terry of Franklin, North Carolina, and five grandchildren.
Services will not be held at David’s request.
Charles Edward Brown, Charles Edward Brown of Proctor passed away Fri., Aug. 18, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was 76.
Charles was born March 9, 1930 in Pembroke, Kentucky to James (Jim) and Mary Lee (Carpenter) Brown. He joined the Army and fought in the Korean War. He worked as a printer, retiring from Davidson Printing Co. Charles was a life member of Graphic Communications International Union and the VFW, post 8690, and also the East Duluth Church of Christ. Charles loved his 80 acres, black cows, and Farmall International 1943 tractor. Charles and Marcia Delaine Allen were married on September 3, 1955.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Parker James Brown.
Charles is survived by his wife of over 50 years Delaine, sons James Edward (Laura Jean) and David Allen, sister Mary Delores (Joe) Frey, brothers James Thomas (Ida Belle), Alonzo Morris (Sue), Irving Emerson (Kate), all of Clarksville, Tenn. and Harry Lee (Gloria) of Evansville, Ind., numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends James Moe, Jeremy Helm, Jeff Dineau, Keith Larsen, Marvin Peterson, Allen Keller, Craig Sunnaborg, Wayne Johanson, and Jack Gorney. The family would like to thank the VA medical center in Superior, Wis. and the Twin Cities, and St. Mary’s Hospice, especially Jackie Swanstrom and volunteer Geno LaVore.
A memorial service was held Mon., Aug. 21, 2006 with Minister Peter Nuthak officiating. Military honors were accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
Russell Edward Peterson, Russell Edward Peterson, formerly of Midway Township, died Fri., Aug. 18, 2006 in Inter Faith Health Care Center, Carlton. He was 83.
He was born on August 24, 1922 to Edward and Ethel Peterson in Duluth. He served in the U. S. Army and was a Merchant Marine during World War II. Russell was a self employed truck driver for Midway Trucking and after retirement, owned and operated Midway Tool. In his earlier years, he loved riding motorcycles and going to flea markets and auctions. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening and playing the harmonica. He was a past member of Bethany Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eileen Mae in 2003, a daughter Christine Dickey Theisen in 2003, a son Jeffrey Dickey in 1978, a brother Norman and sisters Doris Peterson and Ruth Stynsburg.
He is survived by his daughters Cynthia (Phillip) Liupakka of Cloquet and Eileen (Wayne) Laakso of Midway Township, sons Daniel Dickey of Proctor and Steven Dickey of Melbourne, Fla., brothers Carl (Joyce) Peterson of Duluth and Robert (Eleanor) Peterson of Calif., his Burger Tuesday Pal Delbert Jezierski, grandchildren Denelle Fleet, Eric Dickey, Melissa Gelineau, Joshua Dickey, Amanda Dickey, Steven Dickey, Sara Senarighi, Sherri Fechner, Katie Merling and Victoria Merling, and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Carlton Place and Inter Faith Health Care Center for their years of caring for their parents.
A memorial service was held Mon., Aug. 21, 2006 in Bell Brothers Funeral Home. Burial in Bethany Cemetery, Hermantown.
Mary C. Gadbury, Mary C. Gadbury, who grew up in Proctor and graduated from PHS in 1956, died Wed., Aug. 23, 2006 at Long Prairie Memorial Hospital. She was 68.
She was a Browerville resident. Mary was born June 1, 1938 in Fort Totten, ND to William and Ida (Orr) LaRock. She was a member of St. John Vianney Church in Round Prairie Township. She routinely sent cleaning tips to the Journal’s readers signing off as Mrs. Clean.
Survivors include her children Darwin G. Shipp Jr. of Boise, ID, Madeline (Dilip) Samsundar of Minneapolis and Mary Bee (Oral) Pierre of Eagan, grandchildren Jamette Troville, Jimmy Le, Venita Le, Nicole Black, Alex James and Anna James, great-grandchildren William and Christina Troville, brothers and sisters, cousin George Goodall of Brainerd, close friend and best buddy Richard Kortuem of Browerville, and many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Casket bearers were Jimmy Le, George Goodall, Mike Decker, Jim Wojtkiewicz, John Talley, and Mike Murtha.
Services were held Sat., Aug. 26 at St. John Vianney Church in Round Prairie Township, the Rev. Thomas Blute officiating. Burial in Christ The King Cemetery in Browerville.
Carol Jean (Jollymore) Farrell, Carol Jean (Jollymore) Farrell, 61, of Omaha, Neb. and formerly of Proctor, died Sat., Aug. 26, 2006, while caring for her mother in Proctor.
Carol was born in Duluth on October 9, 1944 to Mark Matthew “Jock” Jollymore and Dorothy Jean (Hoffman) Jollymore. She graduated from Proctor High School and UMD. She taught school in St. Cloud, Chicago, and Omaha. She was a member of the Wesley Foundation at UMD. She created the Miss Marple Book Club in Omaha, as she loved to read. Carol loved her family, sports, and gardening. She was a Clown for Christ, a member of Forbes United Methodist Church in Proctor and the Rejoice! Evangelical Lutheran Church in Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her father Jock and her brother Dennis.
She is survived by her mother Dorothy Jean of Proctor, her husband James “Jim” Edward of Omaha, her son Thomas Mark Farrell of Washington DC, daughters Kelly Jean Farrell and Patricia Susan Farrell of Omaha, and nephews Matthew and Michael Jollymore of Duluth.
A service was held Tuesday in the Bell Brothers Funeral Home. Burial in Oneota Cemetery.
