Rodger C. Powers, Services were held earlier this week for Rodger C. Powers. He died in his King Manor home, Thurs., Aug. 3, 2000, the day after his birthday. He was 72.
He was born in Grand Forks, N.D. He grew up in Grand Forks, attending area schools and also attended mortuary school in Cincinnati. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and re-enlisted in the Army in 1951, serving in the Korean War for 16 months. He was employed by Northern Pacific Railway as a brakeman for 20 years, retiring in 1969.
He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, a volunteer at the Gospel Mission and enjoyed reading adventure novels.
He is survived by his sons Jeffrey of Alexandria, Minn., Eugene of Saginaw, Gerald of Proctor, Jonathon of Duluth and Rodger of Proctor, daughters Virginia Novak and Kathleen Powers, both of Los Angeles and Valerie Larson of Duluth, 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brothers Gene Powers of Grand Forks and Roy Powers of Alabama, and a sister Bonnie Hadland of Bismarck, N.D.
Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Albert F. Anderson, Albert F. Anderson, who was born in Proctor in 1919, died Sat., Aug. 5, 2000 at the age of 81.
Albert lived most of his childhood and retirement years in the Superior/Lake Nebagamon area. He was the owner and founder of Anderson Electric in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he worked from 1959 to 1989. He was a former president of Sundial School in Fort Lauderdale, a former Boy Scout leader, former fishing guide on the Brule River, former member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lake Nebagamon.
He is survived by four sons, who live in Florida, a daughter of Superior, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a brother Joseph (Kathy) Anderson of Illinois.
Burial was in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Brule.
Edgar H. Skog, Edgar H. Skog, who was born in Solway Township and drove school bus for the Proctor school district, died Sat., Aug. 5, 2000 in Nopeming Nursing Home. He was 87.
He was born in Solway Township to Herman and Selma (Andreason) Skog. He was confirmed in Salem Covenant Church in Duluth and had been a member of Mission Covenant Church in Adolph. He married Magnhild “Munnie” Collander June 20, 1942, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Proctor. They lived on the family farm, which they purchased in 1947. He and Munnie farmed and drove truck together until 1964 when his ill health prevented him from continuing to work.
When his parents passed away he became a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where Munnie has been a member since the age of seven. He was a member of the senior citizen groups at the Lincoln Park (West End) Senior Center and the Esko Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Evald, a sister Ruth Winquist, brothers-in-law Emil Winquist and Arthur Erickson, a nephew Donald Erickson and a niece Virginia Erickson Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Magnhild “Munnie”, children Dr. Laurence (Dr. Judith) of Vienna, Va., Wendy S. (Barry) Worthington of Charleston, S.C., Jeffrey of Munger, Minn. and Julie Anne (Michael) Skog-Johnson of Munger, a sister Elsa Erickson of Fish Lake, Minn., grandchildren Jeremy Skog, Scott and Amy Skog, Brianna Skog Thygeson and Nathan Johnson, many nieces and nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the Solway Cemetery.
Harlan H. Onraet, Harlan H. Onraet, who graduated from Proctor High School, died Mon., July 31 in a Duluth hospital. He was 46.
He was born in Duluth and was a self-employed contractor.
Harlan is survived by his son Garrett, daughters Melissa and Nacol of Duluth, his mother Elaine of Hermantown, brothers John (Dina) of Duluth and Timothy (Rita) of Deer River, sisters Lynn (Sherman) Turcott of Duluth, Rachel Onraet of Salt Lake City, Elizabeth Standley of Oliver, Jacqueline (Edward) Brown of Minneapolis and Amy Onraet (Kenneth Johnson) of Duluth, and several nieces and nephews.
Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Park.
Sylvia M. Horvath, Diane Davin of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother, Sylvia M. Horvath. She died Tues., Aug. 1, 2000 at Nopeming Nursing Home. She was 85.
The Meadowlands resident was born in Castlewood, S.D. She spent most of her adult life in Elmer Township caring for her family.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Meadowlands.
She is also survived by her husband Steve, three sons, another daughter, three sisters, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Burial was in Rosehill Cemetery, Meadowlands.
