Janet Marianne Palkie, Janet Marianne Palkie, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1952, died Sat., June 10, 2006, in her Cloquet home. She was 72.

She was born February 9, 1934 in Duluth to Clarence and Molly (Benson) Anderson. On October 17, 1959 she married Dr. Jack A. Palkie. Janet was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was very active in WMF.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Jack, and brothers John, Stuart and Dean Anderson.

She is survived by her son Michael (Karla) of Garrison, Minn., daughters Jacklyn (Larry) McMartin of St. Thomas, N.D. and Nadine (Brent) McMillan of Grafton, N.D., nine grandchildren,, sisters-in-law Marlys Anderson of Cloquet and Beverly Colby of Sandstone, and several nieces and nephews.

Services were Tues., June 13, 2006 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Burial in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Esko.

Donald David Johnson , Kevin (Beth) Johnson of Proctor and Kory (Lisa) Johnson of Saginaw are mourning the death of their father, Donald David Johnson of Cloquet. He passed away Thurs., June 8, 2006, at Inter Faith Care Center in Carlton at the age of 80.

He was born June 27, 1925 in Cloquet to Wilhelm and Anna (Hultberg) Johanson. He was united in marriage to Beulah Berthiaume on June 27, 1946 in Cloquet. Don worked in the finishing room for the Potlatch Corp. and retired in 1990 with 48 years of service. He was a member of the Potlatch Quarter Century Club and AARP.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, son Kipp, and brothers Byron and Warren Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Beulah, two other children Karen (John) Angell of Cloquet and Katrina (David) Langley of Minneapolis, his brother Wallace (Lou) Johanson of Cloquet and sister Alvina Sather of Lancaster, Penn., nine grandchildren, and four great-grandsons.

Services were Sat., June 10, 2006, in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet.

Edward L. “Ed” Wolanski, Edward L. “Ed” Wolanski of Solway Township, died Sun., June 11, 2006 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, following a lengthy and courageous battle with leukemia. He was 48.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1957 in Ann Arbor, Mich. to Edward and Ruth (Barker) Wolanski. He grew up in Ann Arbor and attended school there. Ed had lived in Minnesota for 21 years, living near Duluth for the past five years. Ed served in the U.S. Navy during the Cold War, from 1976-1980 in Florida. He married Angela “Angie” Hubbell on Dec. 27, 1983 in Arlington, Texas. Ed was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida. He had been employed as an aircraft mechanic for Northwest Airlines for 23 years. He was a member of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association Local No. 35, Northwestern Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. He loved his family, especially listening to his daughter, Rachael, play the flute, pheasant hunting, fishing, woodworking and the outdoors. Ed was a very personable and friendly man who enjoyed visiting with people.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, brother-in-law Jerry Barnes, and great-niece Victoria Staebler.

Survivors include his wife Angie, daughter Rachael (at home), parents Edward and Ruth Wolanski of Alpena, Mich., sisters Carol Barnes of Michigan, Linnette (Robert) Dowdell of Florida, Kathy (Mike) Staebler of Michigan and Mary (Dirk) Mohle of Florida, seven nephews, one niece, and 14 great-nieces and nephews.

Services were held yesterday in Forbes United Methodist Church, Rev. Mark Johnson officiating.

Burial in Oneota Cemetery. Military honors were accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. If so desired, memorial contributions may be directed to Forbes United Methodist Church or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Arthur A. Allen, Arthur A. Allen, who was born in Proctor Nov. 15, 1916, died in Naples, Fla. on Thurs., Sept. 8, 2005. He was 89.

He lived most of his life near Lake Amnicon. He was an Army Air Corps Master Sergeant in World War II. After the war, he and Helen Ciesla were married in 1945. He farmed and was a boilermaker for the Great Northern Railroad and a machinist for Murphy Oil Refinery. He retired in 1982, moving to Ariz., and Naples, Fla. He was instrumental in the building of St. William’s Catholic Church in Foxboro, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Helen passed away in 1996.

Surviving are his children Jeffrey Allen of Tucson, Ariz., James (Karen) Allen of St. Paul, Joseph (Mary) Allen of Tucson, Jon (Kathy) Allen of Cary, N.C., Gene (Beth) Allen of Prescott, Ariz., and Mary Jill (Randy) Leslie of Naples, Fla., brother Gerald (Shirley) Allen, of Willow River, 16 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A private family service was held in Naples. A celebration of Arthur’s life will be held with a Mass and burial on June 19 at 11 a.m. in St. William’s Church, Foxboro.
