Anna June Kampf Beron, Former Proctor resident, Anna June Kampf Beron, lived to see 100. She died Thurs., May 17, 2001 in Chris Jensen Health Care Center.

The Rice Lake Rd. resident was born in Lampson, Wis. on June 1, 1900 and raised on the family farm until she came to the area at age 18. She worked as a waitress at the old Spalding and Holland Hotels and the Duluth Athletic Club, retiring in 1959. She was a former member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Proctor and St. James Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands John Kampf in 1940 and Raymond Beron, Sr. in 1982.

She is survived by her daughter Lois (Raymond) Leischke of Duluth, her son John (Loretta) Kampf of Billings, Mont., grandsons Gregory Haynes of Hermantown and John Kampf of Bozeman, Mont., stepchildren Giles (Joan) Beron of Ariz., Richard (Judy) Beron of Proctor, Rita (Donald) Myntti of Duluth, step daughter-in-law Lois (Raymond) Beron, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 32 step great-grandchildren, one niece and four nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Marion Pearson, Services were held last week for Marion Pearson. The Second Avenue Proctor resident died Wed., May 16, 2001 in a Duluth hospital. She was 69.

She was born in Duluth. She worked for Elliott’s Meats and Lake Haven Nursing Home. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Raymond in 1974, a sister Doris Jeannetta, a brother Peter Pikkarainen, and her special companion Carl “Ed” Johnson.

She is survived by a daughter Diane L. Pearson (Bob Chicos) of Duluth, two sons Dennis (Brenda) of Duluth and Darrell (Sherri) of Two Harbors, sisters Bernice Hendrickson and Ruthie (Buck) Workman, both of Duluth, brothers Arthur (Sue) Pikkarainen of Las Vegas and Richie (Judy) Pikarainen of Duluth, grandchildren Todd Pearson of Minneapolis, Eric Pearson of Duluth, Christine (Scott) Schmitz of Inver Grove Heights, Chad Pearson of Jordan, Minn., Leah Lehikoinen of Duluth and Melissa (Joel) Schaefer of Kasota, Minn., three great-grandchildren Alanna Lacktorin, Brandan Schmitz and Sierra Schaefer, special extended family Frank and Bonnie Siiro family of Munger, and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Ruth Josephine (Bodell) Pogue, Joe Bodell is saddened by the death of his sister Ruth Josephine (Bodell) Pogue. She died Wed., Apr. 4, 2001. She was 79.

The Blaine resident was a cosmetologist and loved her dog and flowers.

Survivors include her husband Ray, three children, a grandson, a great-granddaughter, six sisters, and five other brothers.

Interment was in Park Hill Cemetery.

Kenneth R. Archambeau, Randy Archambeau of Saginaw is mourning the death of his father, Kenneth R. Archambeau. The Hermantown resident died May 6, 2001 in a Duluth hospital. He was 60.

He was born in Duluth, and was a lifelong Hermantown resident. He was an Army veteran.

He married Audrey Fransk on May 6, 1965, in Hermantown. He had worked for Engwall’s Florist & Greenhouse and the U.S. Steel Plant Duluth Works. He was a Hermantown School District bus driver for seven years and for the past ten years did maintenance work for the Hermantown schools, retiring in Feb. 2001 because of his illness.

He is also survived by his wife of 36 years Audrey, two daughters, two other sons, two brothers, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Burial was in Hermantown Cemetery.

William “Bill” W. Scandin, April Scandin is saddened by the death of her father, William “Bill” W. Scandin. He died Tues., May 15, 2001, in a Duluth hospital. He was 54.

He was born in Duluth. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in 1965. He was employed as a pressman for Service Printers, Davidson Printing Co., and was working at Pro-Print. He was a member of the Graphic Communications International Union Local 76 in Duluth.

He is also survived by his mother June (Dan) Remick of Duluth, a son Troy (Tammi) Scandin of Sioux Falls, SD, their mother Margaret “Peggy” Scandin of Proctor, a grandson, a sister, a brother, four aunts, an uncle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Joseph Alfred “Joe” Saburn, Joanne Christian of Twig is mourning the death of her father Joseph Alfred “Joe” Saburn. He died Tues., May 1, 2001 in Duluth. He was 85.

The Minnesota Ave. resident was born May 12, 1915. His first job was at the age of 3, shoveling sawdust in a boxcar for three cents a day at the sawmill that bordered his family’s property in Nickerson, Minn. At the age of 8, he worked out West at various ranches, running cattle, breaking in broncos and mending fences. He worked as a cowboy throughout his young adult years, until his marriage to Hazel Halmet of Palo in 1937. Later, Joe served as a Navy Sea Bee in World War II in the South Pacific. After the war, Joe became a welder and iron worker in Minnesota, Upper Michigan and Illinois. In 1962, he moved to Phoenix and opened his own small engine repair shop. He retired from there in 1978 and moved to Duluth in 1990, and had lived in the area since then.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Hazel in 1988, a daughter, a brother, and two sisters.

He is also survived by his fiancee Myrtle Garlie of Duluth, a son, and 38 members of his immediate family.

Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Park, with military honors accorded by the Duluth VFW Honor Guard.
