June Amanda (Gunnarson) Renaud,, June Amanda (Gunnarson) Renaud, a 1934 Proctor High School graduate and a longtime Proctor resident, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Solvay Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was 92.
She was born June 29, 1916, in Duluth, to Byron and Signe Gunnarson. On November 30, 1941, June married Thomas Renaud. After her family, her loves were knitting, quilting, crocheting, canning and gardening. June was a past employee of St. Luke’s Hospital and Target. She was a member of the Proctor Moose for over 50 years.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; beloved daughter, Margaret “Muggs”; several brothers, sisters and many extended family members.
She is survived by her children, Corinne McGovern, James, Bette (Tony) Willoughby, Robert (Debbie), Mary (Thomas) Lambert, and Leslie (Lee) Carlson; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Solvay Hospice House for their generous care and consideration.
Visitation is from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm today, Thursday, March 12 in the Bell Brothers Funeral Chapel and from 10 am. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, March 13 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Proctor. Burial will be at Oneota Cemetery.
Donald B. Anderson, Donald B. Anderson, 72, died as the result of an automobile accident Monday, March 2, 2009 on Hwy. 53 in Canosia Township.
He was born to Don and Lillian Anderson Jan. 4, 1937 in Duluth.
Don retired after 30 years working at Minnesota Power as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
Don was a member of the Trinity Masonic Lodge 282, Duluth Valley of the Scottish Rite, AAD Temple of the Shrine, the Moose Lodge in Proctor, and was very active in the IBEW Local 31. He enjoyed spending summers at River Place Campground with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Brian.
Don will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Delores; two sons, Steve (Barb) and Mark; four grandchildren, Jolin, Brandon, Amber, Abbie; brother, Skip (Terry); many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends, and dog, Maggie May.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 9.
Clifford H. “Cy” Carlson, Clifford H. “Cy” Carlson, of Caribou Lake Road, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was 89.
He was born on Sept. 12, 1919 in Duluth to Algot and Ellen (Olson) Carlson.
Cy had been an employee of Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring in 1981. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 150th ARMD SIG CO. in Normandy, northern France and Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe. He received the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star, one Service Stripe, three Overseas Service Bars and a Good Conduct Medal.
Cy was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 137. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, woodworking and painting.
Cy was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Esther E. (Leinonen) on Dec. 6, 1981.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Service was held Sunday, Rev. John Hammack officiating. Burial will be at the Jim Cook Cemetery, Menahga, Minn.
Robert “Bud” Angelo DeDominces, Services were held last week for Robert “Bud” Angelo DeDominces, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 in Duluth. He was 81.
Bud was born and attended school in Duluth.
He sailed the Great Lakes, and worked as a Cement Mason for Lakehead Construction for 35 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons local 53 and Laborers local 1091. Bud met his wife Lorraine while roller-skating. They were married July 8, 1950. Bud loved to roller-skate, dance, and go to swap-meets and car shows. He also loved working on cars. He restored over 26 antique cars into street rods over the years. In retirement, he stayed active by frequently visiting Viewcrest Nursing Home, bringing his baby, “Buffy” to cheer up and brighten the lives of the residents.
Bud was a devoted husband and father; he attended his wife Lorraine through her illness until her death in 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine; daughter, Debbie; two sisters and one brother.
Bud is survived by five children, Robert Jr. (Terri), Barbara (Darrell) Olsen, Frankie (Norma), Robin, Terry Lund; 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Brian, Brandy, Tonya, Jeremey, Katrina, Julie, Brianna, Cody, Kylie; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Anthony; sister, Laverne Keuten; extended family and friends.
Douglas Michael Ritchie, Douglas Michael Ritchie, a 1990 graduate of Proctor High School, died unexpectedly March 2, 2009 at his Cloquet home. He was 36.
He was born in Duluth on June 19, 1972 and was employed with TBI in Duluth. He especially enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with his son, Danny.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Don and Doris Wilmot; paternal grandparents, William and Marcella Ritchie; and his father, Daniel.
Doug is survived by his son, Danny; mother, Ann (Brent) Lee, Saginaw; brother, Jeff (Teresa) Ritchie, Cloquet; sisters, Sarah Schilling, Pike Lake, Jennifer (Rob) Strom, Saginaw; niece, Carly Ritchie; nephews, Rider and River Strom, Saginaw; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Doug was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
A service was held Saturday in New Life Covenant Church in Saginaw.
