Dorothy L. Thygeson, Dorothy L. Thygeson, formerly of Proctor, passed away after a short illness surrounded by her family on Sun., Mar. 4, 2007 at Viewcrest Health Center. She was 88.

She was born in Duluth to Andrew and Ellen (Nygren) Carlson on June 4, 1918. Dorothy was a 1936 graduate of Denfeld High School. She married Robert “Duke” Thygeson, Sr. on Christmas Day 1937. Dorothy worked at Pickwick, Target, and Cozy Corner, was an election judge, and a 50-year member of the Proctor Moose 585. She loved craft work, sewing, flower gardening, and sending a card for every occasion to family and friends. Dorothy was regarded as a “lovely lady” by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband “Duke” in 1997, her son Robert “Bob” Jr. In 1993, brother Clarence in 1983, and her sister and friend Bea Beatty in 2004.

Dorothy is survived by her devoted daughter Sue (Wayne) Swenson of Proctor, a very loving and caring granddaughter Jill (Larry) Erickson of Hermantown, grandsons Jeffrey Swenson of Mankato, Mitchell Swenson of Proctor, and Christian (Meredith) Thygeson of San Diego, great-grandchildren Emily Swenson, Will Erickson, Grace and Sophie Thygeson, and many special friends she made in her brief time at Viewcrest. The family would like to thank the special people at Viewcrest for their care during Dorothy’s stay.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2007 at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service and there will be a gathering after the service at the Proctor Moose. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Oreo’s Kitty Rescue Group, P.O. Box 1065, Proctor, MN 55810.

Franklin D. “Frank” Scouton Sr., Franklin D. “Frank” Scouton Sr., a Saginaw resident for 43 years, died unexpectedly Sun., Feb. 25, 2007, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was 73.

The Munger Shaw Rd. resident was born on June 29, 1933 in Duluth to George and Christine (Kevitt) Scouton and was a graduate of Denfeld High School. He married Joan M. Bolland on June 26, 1953 in Twig. Frank was an employee of the Soo Line Railroad until serving with the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands during testing of atomic weapons from 1951 to 1954. After being discharged, he served in the Army National Guard for six years. He then became an employee of the St. Louis County 5th District Highway Dept., where he worked until retirement as superintendent. He was a life member of the Carlton VFW Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Douglas Sr., grandson Douglas Jr., brothers LeRoy and Raymond, and sisters Beulah Bodin and Beverly Ore.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years Joan, children Franklin Jr., Lawrence (Lana), Michael Sr., Carla (Mike) Salo and Debra (Roger) Malzac, all of Saginaw, sisters Marie Piper of Vancouver, Wash., Lois Schilling of Munger and Helen Wagner of Duluth, 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were Tuesday in Bell Brothers Funeral Home. Inurnment at Grand Lake Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.

James D. Hall, James D. Hall of Brookston died Fri., Feb. 23, 2007 in St. Mary’s Medical Center after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 72.

He was born in Parkers Prairie, Minn., the son of Maurice and Esther Hall. Jim graduated from Parkers Prairie High School. He married Jackie Henzlik on May 27, 1961 in Parkers Prairie. Jim served as a flight mechanic in the Navy for four years. During that time, he flew all over the world and flew a 60-day tour with Col. Radford, Joint Chiefs of Staff. Jim was employed as a general superintendent for a major construction company for more than 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Delores Gunderson, Gerry Urdahl and Kendora Larson.

Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years Jackie of Brookston, sons Cully (Barbara) of Saginaw and Kerry (Jody) of Esko, daughter Gayle (John) Schneider of Scanlon, six grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother; three sisters and many friends.

A memorial service was held Tues., Feb. 27, 2007 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Brookston.

Beverly I. Adams, Beverly I. Adams, who was a 1942 graduate of Proctor High School and a former resident of Saginaw, died Tues., Mar. 6, 2007, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was 81.

The Hermantown resident was born in Duluth on Oct. 20, 1925 and was raised by her mother Mildred Nelson and her stepfather Paul Fred Nelson. Beverly completed a year of college at the Duluth Teachers College. She married Royal W. Adams in Duluth on June 12, 1948. She had worked as a bookkeeper at DeSanto Wholesale Liquor Distributors, West End Iron and Metal and Zenith Steel Co. Beverly was an active member of New Life Covenant Church in Twig.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by her children Kathleen (Dave) Johnson and Craig, both of Saginaw, and Kent (Kathleen) of Duluth, sister Marlys Lee of Hermantown, brothers Jerome (Margaret) Nelson, of Brainerd and Travis (Gail) Nelson of Winona, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Saturday in New Life Covenant Church in Twig. Burial at Oneota Cemetery.

Margaret J. Tromblay, A memorial service was held Monday for Margaret J. Tromblay of Saginaw. She died Sat., March 3, 2007, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was 66.

She was born at home July 20, 1940 in Cloquet to Maurice and Hilda (Bjork) Tromblay. Margie was a confirmed member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Twig. She attended school in Brookston. Margie attended UDAC for over 30 years and looked forward to her daily activities there. Along with her involvement with UDAC, she also participated in Special Olympics. Margie lived with her sister Marion and her family for much of her adult life. In her later years, she lived at Kiminki Homes, Andler Homes, Trillium Services and Edgewood Vista.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Marion Johnson.

Margie is survived by her brother Richard (Delores) Tromblay, sisters Shirley Elfving, Helen Bong and Lorraine Laine, and many nieces and nephews, including her niece and guardian, Susan Johnson.

Rev. Joe Koranda officiated the service.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery in Twig.

Walter A. Swanstrom, Susie Clark (Archie) of Pike Lake is saddened by the death of her father, Walter A. Swanstrom. He died Wed., Mar. 7, 2007, at the Benedictine Health Center Safe Harbor Duluth. He was 95.

Walter was a veteran of the Minnesota National Guard and the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a boy scout leader for 50 years. He was part owner of General Appliance in Duluth until 1962. He then went to work for the U.S. Navy in Panama Canal Zone as a Mechanical Engineer, followed by work with the Air Force in Washington state. He retired in 1976 and returned to the Duluth area.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Anne, first son Walter John, brothers Cody, Pete and Dick, and sister Jane.

He is also survived by his sons Skip of County Claire, Mich., Tom (Mary Kay) of Duluth, Bill (Sue) of Apple Valley, and Pat (Janice) of Thousand Oaks, Calif., nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Arthur E. Kubis, Services will be held today for Arthur E. Kubis of Saginaw. He died Sat., Mar. 10, 2007, in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital. He was 77.

He married Betty Christ on May 9, 1952. Art was a farmer and worked at Conwed and USG in Cloquet for 42 years, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage, bringing water to the deer camp, sitting on his deck having fun, Saturday morning coffee time with family and friends and he loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and LaVerna and brothers Don and Ronald Kubis. Art was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years Betty, his children Ron “Bucky” Kubis and Donna (Rick) Maki, both of Saginaw, his special grandchildren Jennifer (Dewey) Johnson of Duluth and Jason “Stubby” Maki of Cloquet, special twin great-granddaughters Madison and Kaitlin Johnson “His Little Punkins”, brothers Lawrence “Cub” (Pauline) Kubis, Kenny Kubis and Robert “Chip” (Kathy) Kubis, all of Saginaw, and Jer (Barb) Kubis of Cloquet, sisters Charlene (Norman) Amborn and Norma Nichols, both of Saginaw, and Lorraine “Toots” Gilbertson of Calif., sister-in-law Lucille Kubis of Saginaw, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will continue today, Thursday from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service in St. John’s Lutheran Church of Saginaw.
