Elma I. Tuomi, Services were held last week for Elma I. Tuomi, Proctor. She died Wed., Mar. 1, 2006 at home. She was 86.
She was born in Toivola, Minn., on Aug. 25, 1919, to Jack and Celia Sorvari. She graduated from school in Toivola. Elma married Roy F. Tuomi in Hibbing on May 27, 1939. Elma was a devoted wife and mother. She was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, and raising her six children.
Elma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy F. in 1977, son Roy W. in 1996, and granddaughter Trish Tuomi in 2004, sons-in-law Don Spindler in 1975, Dean W. Inman, 1984 and George W. LaLonde, 2000, brothers Eino and Arvid, and sister Mae Miller.
She is survived by her children Ray J. (Diane), Karen A. LaLonde, Carolyn J. (Terry) Inman, Richard A. (Sherry), Ronald L. (Sue), all of Proctor, daughter-in-law Susan Tuomi of Scandia, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and sisters Aune (Rich) Johnson of Burnsville, Sylvia Sanders of Meadowlands, and Alie Nelimark of Virginia.
Burial at Oneota Cemetery.
Tyne Okstad, Tyne Okstad of Duluth passed away peacefully on Sun., Mar. 5, 2006, at home surrounded by her family. She was 84.
She was born February 6, 1922, in Sebeka, Minn. to Abram and Hilja Pajari. Tyne grew up in Sebeka and moved to Duluth in 1936. She worked at the former Nopeming Nursing Home for Dr. Terrell, before marrying Sidney Okstad on June 21, 1944. They made their home in the Proctor area, raising their eight children. Mom will be remembered for her kind and tender heart and her recognizable laugh. Also, for how she loved to play cards, sing, and believed in hard work and in doing the right thing. She was a member of the Proctor American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. 6320, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor.
Tyne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years Sidney, son Bruce, grandson Wayne Shelhon, sisters and brothers.
She is survived by daughters Claudia McDonald of Duluth, Ann (Skip) Bishop of Meadowlands and Sue (Tracy) Madden of Rock Springs, WY, sons Roger (Vonnie) of Duluth, Tim (Marie) of Grand Forks, ND, Tom (Tammy) of Proctor and Mark of Duluth, daughter-in-law Judy Okstad of Duluth, grandchildren Wendy, Willie, Wanita, Jason, Christine, Jon, Kyle, and Nicole, great-grandchildren Sara, Jordon, Levi, Michale, Logan, and Wallace, great-great-grandchildren Dylan, Ryan, and Alyssa, sister Florence Hill of Proctor, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Tyne’s family would like to thank St. Mary’s Hospice Program, especially Jamie, Audrey, and Jodi, for their wonderful care and kindness to their mother.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Fri., Mar. 10 in Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home and will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor. Entombment in Sunrise Memorial Park.
Ann Townsend, Ann Townsend of Proctor was remembered by family and friends at Hillside Gardens. She passed away quietly on Fri., Feb. 24, 2006, while visiting her son in Georgetown, Texas. She was 94.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel Sr.
She is survived by sons Mel Jr. (Meredith) of Anoka, Chuck (Jan) of Georgetown, Texas, granddaughters Carrie (Loren) Manty of Cloquet, Cheri (Matt Ehling) Townsend of St. Paul, Carol (Tom Nacey) Trombley of Stillwater, and Sara Townsend of Georgetown, Texas, great-grandchildren Brandon and Marissa Manty, Aria Trombley and Sian Nacey, step-granddaughters Pam Jenson and Paula Rodin, step-grandchildren, Alex and Amanda Jenson, Madeline and Abigail Rodin, Autumn and Aurek Rung, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
