Dorothy Mae LeRoux, Jim (Kathy) LeRoux is saddened by the death of his mother, Dorothy Mae LeRoux. The Duluth resident died Sat., Feb. 17, 2007, at St. Mary’s Medical Center at the age of 83.
She was born in Duluth on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923, to Arthur and Esther Erickson Benson. She was a 1941 graduate of Denfeld High School and later married Clarence C. LeRoux in Duluth in August of 1946. Dorothy had worked for Northwestern Bell at the Calumet Building until she started raising her family. She was a very active member of St. James Catholic Church, including St. Margaret’s Guild, the Blue Army, Legion of Mary and the National Order of Foresters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1976, infant sisters Agnes and Veronica and sisters Evelyn Morehead and Kathryn Makin.
Dorothy is also survived by her other children Renee (Dave) Gunderson of Duluth, Chuck (Deb) of Stillwater, grandchildren Andy, Dave (Sherri), Mark (Katie) and Joannie Gunderson, Mariah, Sean, Elaina and Tyler LeRoux, step-grandchildren Tim (Jen) and Chris (Colleen), two great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, Duluth. Burial at Oneota Cemetery.
Theodore Geier, Mary (Greg Sorenson) of Proctor is mourning the death of her father Theodore Geier. He passed away on Sat., Feb. 17, 2007, at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 82.
He was born to Peter & Helen Geier on Sept. 24, 1924 in Ladysmith, Wis. Ted was a World War II Navy Veteran. He married Lucille Grosskopf on July 13, 1946. He worked for Western Electric & Control Data Corporation and lived in St. Paul from 1946 - 1969. He moved to Duluth, in May 1969, where he and Lucille owned and operated Piedmont Hardware until their retirement in November 1984. In 1988, Ted and Lucille moved to Deming, New Mexico, where they wintered for 19 years, returning to Duluth during the summer months.
He was preceded in death by his sister Dolores (Dye) Geier and brother Jerome Geier.
Ted is also survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lucille, and their other children Ann (Robert Minter) of Lino Lakes, Thomas (Sandra Cullen), Janet (Dale Seafolk) and Barbara (James Crusan), all of Hermantown, and James and Gloria, both of Milwaukee, 12 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, his sister Virg McDonald of Sun Valley, Nev., and brother Peter J Geier of Minneapolis. Services to be held at a later date.
Patricia Lucille Thorne, Patricia Lucille Thorne, an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church since 1972 and also was a member of its St. Anthony Circle, died Mon., Feb. 12, 2007, in St. Mary’s Medical Center Hospice. She was 65.
She was born on April 15, 1941 in Watertown, S.D. to Mike and Lucille (Moes) Falk. She had been a Hermantown resident for the past 35 years. Pat was a 1959 graduate of Duluth Cathedral High School. She married James Thorne on Oct. 14, 1961 in Duluth. Pat was a cashier before marriage and did bookkeeping for her husband for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother Larry.
Survivors include her husband Jim, sons Michael (Kelli) of Proctor, David of St. Paul and Steven (Julie) of Duluth, special granddaughters Samantha and Sarah, sisters Judi (Doug) Mehr of Cushing, Minn., JoAnn (Elisha) Bowling and Linda Falk of Edinburgh, Indiana, Monica (Pete) Sikio of Saginaw and Karin (Bruce) Fox of Ocala, Fla., brothers Jerry (Karen) Falk of Duluth and Larry (Sue) Falk of St. Cloud, many nieces and nephews, and special friend Lynne Davis.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held last week in St. Rose Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. James Bissonette officiating. Burial at Park Hill Cemetery.
Eileen Mae (Fournier) Tessier, Eileen Mae (Fournier) Tessier of Solway Serenity Acres, formerly of Hermantown, passed away on Sat., Feb. 10, 2007. She was 80.
She was born on May 5, 1926, to Joseph Fournier and Marie (Laverdiere) Fournier in Duluth. Eileen grew up in West Duluth and attended Denfeld High School. She worked at Gately’s Clothing Store before marrying Maurice Tessier on Sept. 30, 1950. Eileen was a member of St. Lawrence Church and the French Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Philip R. Tessier, brothers and sisters-in-law Fred (Elsie) Fournier, Lawrence (Betty) Fournier, Henry (Sandra) Fournier and Vernon Fournier and brother in-law Harold Weber.
She is survived by her husband Maurice, and their children Gary (Mary Dickison) Tessier, Anne (Clyde) Larson, Paul Tessier, Adrienne (John) Sobczak, Carolyn (Matt Katzmarek) Kratt, and Michael (Michelle) Tessier, and 10 grandchildren, brothers Russell Fournier and Richard (Katie) Fournier, sisters Evelyn Weber, Myrt (Will) Carlson, and Doris Podgorsek, and sister in-law Liz Fournier. She also is survived by brothers and sisters in-law Ray (Pat) Tessier, Sis (Danny) Boone, Lawrence (Connie) Tessier, Gen (Sarge) Larson and Joe (Julie) Tessier, and many nieces and nephews.

Ethel Gill-Michelson, Jean (Jim) Lunda is saddened by the death of her sister, Ethel Gill-Michelson. She died on Fri., Feb. 2, 2007, in Parkside Gardens in Hemet, Calif. She was 95.
Ethel was born to Dan O’bey and Julie Tichy O’bey on March 5, 1911 in Ironwood, Mich. She moved to Duluth, as a small child and lived there most of her life. Ethel married Sam Gill on March 21, 1928. In June of 1951, Ethel and Sam moved to Long Beach, Calif. Sam passed away in July of 1965. Ethel moved back to Duluth and met and married Earl Michelson in 1968. Ethel was a professional beautician for a number of years. She was an active member of the American Legion in Duluth, She was past president of the auxiliary.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husbands Sam Gill and Earl Michelson, granddaughter Kathryn Murphy, sister Catherine, and eight stepbrothers and sisters.
She is also survived by her daughters Joanne (Edward) Peltier of Hemet, Calif. and Patricia (Kenneth) Palmer of Thousand Oaks, Calif., stepchildren David (Lail) Michelson of Duluth, Charles of San Francisco, Calif., Anne of Moundsville, and Fran of Toronto, Canada, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and several generations of nieces and nephews.
She was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Long Beach, Calif.
Ione V. Carlson, Ione V. Carlson of Saginaw passed away Wed., Feb. 21, 2007, at her Saginaw residence. She was 76.
She was born Oct. 5, 1930 in Duluth to Martin and Lilian Newman. Ione attended Duluth public schools and was a 1948 graduate of Denfeld High School, after which she attended UMD for several years. Ione loved music and played clarinet with the Duluth Symphony Orchestra. She worked for the First American Bank, Oliver Iron Mining Co. and the U.S. Census Bureau. In 1955, Ione married Roger A. Carlson of Duluth and together raised three fine children. She had many and varied interests including cooking, sewing, gardening, fishing and traveling. Ione was a Past Worthy Matron of the Trinity Eastern Star, member of the VFW Auxiliary and Christ Lutheran Church in Duluth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 34-year-old son Keith, son-in-law Wayne, brother Bill, and sister Inez.
Ione is survived by her husband Roger, daughter LoriLei Dembroski of Brookston, son Bruce of Saginaw, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Mon., Feb. 26, 2007, with Rev. Joe Koranda officiating.
Julia L. Arezzo, Julia L. Arezzo of Proctor passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital on Fri., Feb. 23, 2007. She was 75.
She was born on July 1, 1931 to Peter and Frances (Neagbour) Glowacki. She was united in marriage to Vincent Arezzo on June 28, 1952. Julia was a fantastic seamstress, sewer, and cook. She found great joy in painting ceramics and reading anything she could get her hands on.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Julia’s memory will live on through her loving husband of 55 years Vincent Arezzo Sr., children Connie (Ken) Barlau, Vincent (Sue) Arezzo Jr., Karen (Scott) Spearin, and Todd (Joanie) Arezzo, grandchildren Marie (Tony) Verdeja, Erin Johnson, Luke Dettinger, Ryan Barlau, Katie Barlau, Tyler Arezzo, Jason Arezzo, Zach Spearin and Ali Spearin, sister Rose (Vernon) Osterhues, brother Donald Glowacki, and half-sister Eliza Perala.
A funeral service was held Wed., Feb. 28, 2007 in St. Rose Catholic Church, with Fr. James Bissonette officiating. Inurnment in Calvary Cemetery.
John C. “Jack” Campaigne, John C. “Jack” Campaigne, formerly of Duluth, who volunteered at Bay View Elementary from 1991 until this past October when he fell ill and also sponsored Little League Baseball, buying the uniforms and attending many of their games at Klang Park, died Thurs., Feb. 22, 2007, in the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior. He was 79.
Jack was born on Sept. 25, 1927 in Spooner, Wis. to William and Laura (Carpentier) Campaigne. He graduated from St. Paul Central High School. Jack served in the United States Marines from May 1945 for 27 years before his retirement in 1971. After his retirement from the military, he went on to college and received his degree in Elementary Education from UMD in 1975, and then his certificate to teach remedial reading and learning disabled children from UMD in 1979. He also received certification to instruct Educable Mentally handicapped from St. Cloud State University in 1984. Jack taught at Bruno Elementary School in Esko from 1979 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, VFW Post #8960, FRA Branch 349, National Rifle Association, AARP, NRTA Division, MEA and NEA Retired Teachers Division.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roy and Robert Campaigne, and sisters Audrey Bender and Sybil.
He is survived by a sister-in-law Corrine Campaigne of Superior, brother-in-law Arlie Bender of Kansas City and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Service was held at United Presbyterian Church Sat., Feb. 24, 2007. Inurnment at Highland Cemetery.
Florian Wizner, Gertrude Pelletier of Proctor is saddened by the death of her brother, Florian Wizner. The Two Harbors’ resident died Sat., Feb. 24, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. He was 82.
He was born Oct. 29, 1924 in Duluth to Michael and Helen (Bachinski) Wizner. He graduated from Denfeld High School. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1942 to 1946. Florian married Ruth Ann Johnson in 1951. He was employed by the DM&IR Railroad as an engineer for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He also worked for Johnson’s Funeral Home. Florian and Ruth Ann spent 21 years living at their cabin home on Bassett Lake. They moved together to the Silver Bay Veteran’s Home in April of 2006.
Florian was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Raymond and Donald.
He is also survived by his wife of 55 years Ruth Ann, daughters Jodell of Two Harbors and Lynn (Joseph) Coda of Vallejo, Calif., sons Mark (Marguerite) of Boulder, Colo. and Todd (Sherri) of Onalaska, Wis., grandchildren Ben of Oshkosh, Brice of Onalaska and Kerri of Honolulu, sister-in-law Flor Ann Wizner of Duluth, nieces Diane O’Keefe of Sioux Falls, Cynthia Pelletier of Proctor, Patti (David) Bruhjell of Duluth and Laurie (Larry) Omdahl of Friendswood, Texas, and nephews Gary Wizner of Duluth and Michael (Linda) Pelletier of Superior.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Fri., Mar. 2, 2007, in Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors, followed by burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
