Amanda G. Neve, Amanda G. Neve of Boundary Ave., a lifelong Proctor resident and a 1937 graduate of Proctor High School who worked at Stewart’s grocery store and the Proctor Journal, died Mon., Feb. 20, 2006 in Benedictine Health Center. She was 86.
She was born on May 1, 1919 in Proctor to Julien and Irma (Popelier) Vangrysperre. Amanda married James P. Neve on Jan. 24, 1942 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Proctor. Amanda was a homemaker, a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and its St. Joseph’s Circle. She was also a longtime member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters and was its local president for 20 years. She enjoyed baking, knitting, crocheting and reading. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for others and numerous quilts, especially for her grandchildren. Amanda won many Grand Champion ribbons at the South St. Louis County Fair for her jams, jellies, knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James on March 3, 1979, and a sister Mary Gerber.
Survivors include her daughter Judy (Bruce) Gianunzio of Duluth, sons James P. Jr. (Jackie) of Mound, Patrick (Judy) of Esko and Robert (Vicki Jacques) of Proctor, sister Margaret Mortinsen of Proctor, grandchildren Christine (Brian) Kline, Brian Gianunzio, Joe (Brenda) Neve, David (Jesse) Neve, Chad (Kristi) Neve, Ann Neve, Darren Neve and Nicholas Neve, and great-grandchildren Jacob, Matthew, Alexander, Peter, Colin, Sarah, Jonathan, Daniel, Benjamin, Will and Gavin. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. today, Thurs. in St. Rose Catholic Church, Proctor, Rev. Fr. James Bissonette officiating. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.
Russell W. Hanson, Russell W. Hanson of Proctor passed away Fri., Feb. 10, 2006 at St. Mary’s Medical Center Hospice Unit. He was 90.
He was born in Duluth on Nov. 24, 1915 to Helmer and Marie (Paulson) Hanson. Russell was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a self-employed carpenter for the last 60 years proudly working until he was 85.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and brother Wallace.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Violet Hanson, niece Jeanne (John) McMullen, nephews Dale (Dian) Hanson and Danny Hanson.
Helen M. Kershaw, Gary (Sandy) Kershaw of Proctor is mourning the death of his mother, Helen M. Kershaw. The Moose Lake resident died Wed., Feb. 15, 2006 in Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet. She was 87.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gene in 1998, brother Virgil Funke, and grandchildren Rebecca Sue Takkunen and Gene Peterson.
Helen will also be remembered by her other children Sharen Kay (Wayne) Peterson of Moose Lake and Judith Ann (Lyle) Takkunen of Cloquet, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Lorraine Funke of Fla., and a niece and nephews.
Services were held Mon., Feb. 20, 2006 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Moose Lake. Pastor Larry La Dassor officiated. Inurnment in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Moose Lake.
