Beatrice Elizabeth Beatty, Beatrice ?Bea? Elizabeth Beatty, 84, formerly of Oak Street for 55 years, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, in Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Bea was born in Duluth to Andrew and Ellen (Nygren) Carlson. She was an active member of Women of the Moose Chapter 585 for over 50 years. She loved craftwork, including sewing, needlework, flower gardening around home and making costumes for her grandchildren. She worked for Glass Block and retired from the Proctor Pharmacy. She was a member of Forbes United Methodist Church.

Bea is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clarence Carlson.

Surviving is a son, David E. (Lynn) Beatty of Wrenshall, Minn.; a daughter, Diane E. (Gary) Lindberg of Fairfax Station, Virg; and a sister, Dorothy Thygeson of Proctor; eight grandchildren, Eric (Karin) Lindberg, Kirstin (Whit) Smith, Pamela (Rob) Monahan, Tina (Brent) Abrahamson, David (Tausha) Haley, Nichole (Brad) Glesner, Joshua Beatty, and Timothy Beatty; nine great grandchildren, Austin, Dacotah, and Savannah Haley, Brooke and Erin Lindberg, Kathryn Smith, Makayla Abrahamson, Garett Christiansen, and Tasia Beatty; a nephew, Mark (Bonnie) Carlson and nieces, Susan (Wayne) Swenson and Judy (Harvey) Burski.

Visitation will continue from 10 until the 11:00 a.m. service today, Thursday, in Forbes United Methodist Church.

Memorials to the Alzheimer?s Association would be appreciated. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery.

Esther Alma Luoma , Area residents are mourning the death of their mother Esther Alma Luoma of Emerson Road. She died Sat., Jan. 31, 2004, in St. Luke?s Hospital. She was 90.

Esther was born in Brookston. She attended Central High School. In 1933, she married Theodore ?Ted? Luoma. They made their home in Floodwood, where they farmed. In 1962, they moved to Cloquet where they owned and operated the Luoma Sauna until 1973. Then they moved to Hermantown. Esther was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Hermantown, and a member of First Lutheran Church when they moved to Duluth in 1995.

Survivors include her children Beatrice (Richard) Ojakangas of Duluth, Leonard (Wilma) Luoma of Saginaw, Marion Diez of Duluth and Delray Beach, Fla., Lillian Stocke of Duluth, Betty Mae (Tom) Dock of Eau Claire, Wis., Eugene (Kathie) Luoma of Duluth, Rudy (Marlene) Luoma of Hermantown, Nancy (Jack) LaVoy of Duluth, Alvin (Pam) Luoma of Bovey, and Dawn Luoma of Minneapolis, 35 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.

Edith Pehl, Roger (Becky) Pehl of Twig is mourning the death of his mother Edith Pehl. She died at home on Tues., Feb. 3, 2004. She was 84.

Edith was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. She attended schools in Virginia and Duluth, and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1937. In 1942 she married Wilfred Pehl. When Will returned from WW II, they began raising a family. They moved to Montana for a few years, and finally settled in Hermantown. Edith was a member of Salem Lutheran Church since 1953.

She is also survived by her husband Wilfred, daughter Linda (Dale) Benson of Duluth, another son Ralph (Marilyn) Pehl of Ham Lake, Minn., 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and her sister and best friend Joan (Vic) Tapper of Duluth.

Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown.
