Joseph R. Score, Jr., Joseph R. Score, Jr. of Proctor died unexpectedly Mon., Jan. 9, 2006 at his residence. He was 89.
He was born Dec. 17, 1916 in Duluth to Joseph and Mabel (Swenson) Score, Sr. Joe married Phyllis Peterson Dec. 28, 1940 in Duluth. He retired as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1973 and was a lifetime member of the United Transportation Union. Joe liked to tinker in his garage and was an avid hunter. He loved to garden and spend countless hours at his cabin on Caribou Lake. Joe was a UMD Hockey season ticket holder for many years. At the age of 80, Joe received his welding license and SCUBA license, showing his family that you are never too old to learn, something he instilled in them all their life.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis in 2004, daughter and son-in-law Joy and Wayne High, daughter Cheryl Lynn Townley, grandchildren Rusty Nelson and Ricky Usack, and son-in-law Johnny Carbough.
Joe is survived by his daughters Penny (William) Usack of Proctor, Bonnie (Dwayne) Crandall of Alborn and JoAnn Carbough of Duluth, son Mark Score of Duluth, 17 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and son-in-law Dennis Townley.
A memorial service will be held today (Thurs.) at 2:00 p.m. at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave. with Pastor Jeff Holter officiating.
