Myrtle Gunvor (Sorgren Morken) Akre, Tobilyn (Allen) Fameree of Saginaw is mourning the death of her mother Myrtle Gunvor (Sorgren Morken) Akre. The Grand Rapids resident passed away Tues., Dec. 26, 2006 in the Gibeau Assisted Living Home in Cohasset, Minn. She was 84.
She was born in Grand Rapids on Oct. 16, 1922 to Ivan and Emma (Hogbom) Sorgren. Myrtle graduated from Grand Rapids High School, and worked at Blandin Paper Company and the Grand Rapids Herald Review.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Kermit “Budd” Akre and her parents.
Survivors also include a son C. Brad (Cheryl) Akre of Nevis, Minn.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held Sat., Dec. 30, 2006. Interment at Harris Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
Franklin David Mattson, Services will be held Saturday for Franklin David Mattson of Munger. He died unexpectedly Sat., Dec. 30, 2006 surrounded by his loving family at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was 70.
Frank was born Nov. 4, 1936 to Martha and Albin Mattson in Duluth. He was a 1955 graduate of Proctor High School, and was united in marriage to Barbara Johnson June 28, 1958. Frank worked 45 years at the Radford Company. He also had his own shop at home where he made windows. Frank built two homes for his family, one in which his wife Barb still resides. Franklin was a former member of Hope Lutheran Church in Munger, where he held the position of elder and president for several years. He was also a retired member of the Solway Volunteer Fire Department, with one of his favorite sayings being, “We saved a lot of basements.”
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Frank is survived by his wife of 48 years Barbara, son Scott (Sherry) of Granger, IA, daughters Susan (Rich) of Monticello and Sharon (Steve) of Sturgeon Lake, grandchildren Eric and Elicia Mattson, Sara (Joe) and Amy Shykes and Franklin White, great-grandchild Evan Jacobson, and many close personal friends.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday January 6, 2007 at The Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth (218) 624-5200. There will be a visitation one hour prior and a reception following. Chaplain Bob Saunders will be officiating.
Edward Mareski, Edward Mareski, who was born in Munger, died Mon., Dec. 18, 2006. He was 83.
The Northlake, Ill., resident was born May 11, 1923 to August and Michelina Mareski.
He was preceded in death by his parents August and Michelina, brothers August and Joseph, sisters Mary (Chester) Cheetham and Eva, wife Rosella, and daughter Patricia.
He is survived by his sons James and Eugene and daughter Yvonne Holewa, all of Illinois, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters Helen Forstrom of Hermantown and Jennie Thorson of Proctor, and several nieces and nephews.
Clara H. Haag, Clara H. Haag passed away Wed., Dec. 20, 2006, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was 74.
She was born Jan. 25, 1932 in St. Paul to George and Alice Brodkorb. Because Clara’s husband George was in the U.S. Air Force, they lived in several different states eventually settling in the area.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband George in 1998, and a son and daughter.
She is survived by her children Christine (Dale) Nephew, Kathleen Carlson, George (Stacy) Haag, Jr., Gary Haag, Gordon (Jan) Haag, Warren Dean (Kelly) Haag and Scott (Mercy) Haag, twenty grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and sisters Delores (Don) Mishler and Joan Harvey.
Per Clara’s request there will be no service at this time.
