Emmaline L. Fechner, Wayne Fechner of Proctor is mourning the death of his mother, Emmaline L. Fechner. She died Tues., Dec. 25, 2001 in Nopeming Nursing Home. She was 84.
She was a lifelong Duluth resident and worked for Elliott’s Meats for 30 years, retiring in 1976.
She was preceded in death by her parents Erick and Anna Nelson, a brother Roy Nelson, and her husband Richard in 1980.
She is survived by daughters Donna (Chuck) Panian of Green Valley, Ariz. and Karen Goar and Janet Russell, both of Duluth, son Wayne (Sharon) of Proctor, ten grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Park.
Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Cheryl Lynn Townley, Penny Usack of Proctor is saddened by the loss of her sister, Cheryl Lynn Townley. She died Sun., Dec. 23, 2001 in Two Harbors. She was 54.
She was born April 23, 1947, in Duluth, where she grew up and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1965. She married Dennis Townley in 1965 and they had made their home in Silver Bay since 1969.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a former president of the VFW Auxiliary and a Cub Scout pack leader for many years.
Cheryl was preceded in death by a sister Joy High.
She is survived by her husband Dennis, sons James (Glenda) of Chisholm and Doug (Nichel) of Duluth, a daughter Denise Townley of Silver Bay, her parents Joseph and Phyllis Score of Duluth, a brother Mark Score of Duluth, two other sisters Jo Ann Carbaugh of Hermantown and Bonnie (Dwain) Crandall of Lake Elora, a brother-in-law Wayne High of Wyoming, Minn. and five grandchildren.
Burial was in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery, Beaver Bay Township.
Earl R. Hanson, Earl R. Hanson, who was a Grand Lake Township resident for most of his life, died Wed., Dec. 26, 2001 in a Duluth hospital. He was 81.
The former Twig resident was born in Duluth, was a 1938 graduate of Cotton High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. He married Ethel C. Nelson on Sept. 27, 1941, in Melrude. Earl was a mechanic for International Harvester for 17 years, the former Duluth Motors for 23 years and the Duluth Air Base for seven years until his retirement in 1982.
Earl served in several township capacities and as supervisor for the Grand Lake Town Board for 39 years. He served with the Minnesota Township Officers as vice president, was a former State of Minnesota Township Leader of the Year. He was a charter member of the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, serving as chairman and director for 15 years. He was past president of the St. Louis County Township Officers, a 4-H leader and was active in promoting youth activities at Twig, including establishment of the Twig Hockey Association, soccer and the Caribou Lake Swimming beach.
The Earl Hanson Soccer Field at Twig was named for him. Earl was a charter member of the Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department and had served as fire chief. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Twig, and had served on its church council.
Survivors include his wife Ethel, a son Scott (Bunny) of Nisswa, a daughter Kathi Evenson of Eden Prairie, grandchildren Lisa (Eric) Langlee of Coon Rapids, Keith Hanson of Alexandria, John Swanson of Cloquet, and Ross and Abby Evenson, both of Eden Prairie, great-grandchildren Dana and Kathryn Langlee, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Grand Lake Cemetery. Memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Twig.

Sharon Rae Rodlund, Cindy Davidson of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother, Sharon Rae Rodlund. She died Wed., Dec. 26, 2001 in her Brimson home. She was 59.
She was born in Duluth and was a 1960 graduate of Morgan Park High School. Sharon married Donald J. Rodlund in Duluth on June 18, 1960. She served as the town clerk of Bassett Township.
Survivors also include her husband and best friend of 41 years Donald, two sisters, two sons, and eight grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Edwin William Olson, Edwin William Olson, who attended Munger Elementary School, died Wed., Dec. 19, 2001 in Marshfield, Wis. He was 74.
He was born in Duluth.and graduated from Central High. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth, majoring in business. He served in the Air Force.
He was employed with Grassland Dairy in Greenwood as vice president of sales and marketing.
Edwin is survived by his daughters Susan (Ron) Landwehr and Nancy (Al) Meyer, both of Colby, a brother Donald (Betty) Olson of Duluth, grandchildren April, Erin, Eric, Jessie and Nicholas, a great-grandchild Blake, and special family friends Keith “Buck”, Lori, Justin and Jenny Michlig, all of Abbotsford, Wis.
Inurnment was in Colby Memorial Cemetery.
Daniel Roy Sjoblom, Daniel Roy Sjoblom, who graduated from Proctor High School in 1964, died Tues., Dec. 25, 2001 at his North Pole, Alaska home, with his loving family by his side. He was 55.
Dan was born Nov. 27, 1946 in Oak Park, Ill. to Tom and Ruth Sjoblom. At the age of 6 months, his family moved to Duluth. After graduation from Proctor, he continued his education at Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis. In 1968, he purchased an old school bus, which he converted into a makeshift camper, and invited ten of his friends to join him on a trip to Alaska. The sign on the side of the bus read “Alaska or Bust”. On the return trip, the sign was changed to “Praise the Lord - we made it”.
Dan spent time in Nome, Alaska, where he was a “bush pilot”, a substitute teacher, a youth counselor, a fisherman, or whatever needed to be done. In 1979, he moved to Fairbanks, Alaska and was employed by IBM for 19 years. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Fairbanks, and served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.
Dan was diagnosed with cancer last October and received treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. for several months.
Dan was preceded in death by his father Tom Sjoblom, and his sister Pat VanReese.
Survivors include his mother Ruth Sjoblom of Duluth, his wife Darcy of North Pole, Alaska, sons James (Iva), Paul, Mark, Luke and Jonathon, daughters Anna Rae, Elizabeth and Sarah, all of North Pole, brothers Ronald Sjoblom of Duluth, William Sjoblom of Austin, Texas, and sister Linda (John) House of Wrenshall, Minn., brother-in-law David VanReese of Nashwauk, Minn., two nieces, and four grandnephews.
Services were held last week at the Bible Baptist Church in Fairbanks, Alaska, and at the Fond du Lac Community Church in Duluth.
Robert G. Zimbeck, Bonnie Kurki and Tom Zimbeck, both of Proctor, are mourning the death of their father, Robert G. Zimbeck. He died Mon., Dec. 10, 2001 in a Duluth hospital after a brief illness. He was 80.
He was born in Bloomer, Wis. An Army veteran of World War II, he had served in an armored unit in the European Theater of Operations. In 1948, Robert married Lucille Luczak in Duluth. He worked as a locomotive engineer at the U.S. Steel plant until its closure and later worked for ten years at UMD.
He was a member of St. Josephat’s Polish National Catholic Church, VFW 6320, Hermantown Seniors Club and the Senior Skyline Lanes Bowling League.
He is also survived by his wife of 53 years Lucille, a sister Inez Gronning of Shell Lake, Wis., granddaughters Stacy (Jayson) St. Germaine of Duluth, Melissa Asunma of Proctor and Sherri (Eric) Rude of Oliver, Wis., and a large loving, extended family.
Lenora L. Lamoureux, Lenora L. Lamoureux, who was born in Proctor, died Tues., Dec. 24, 2001. She was 91.
The Brainerd resident was born May 12, 1910 in Proctor to John B. and Willimina (Koeffler) Eales. She graduated from Proctor High School in 1929. She married Ralph Lamoureux on June 14, 1934 in Proctor. She worked in the finishing department at Potlatch Paper Company for 17-1/2 years until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother Samuel Eales, and five sisters.
Survivors include her son Bruce Lamoureux of Jasper, Texas, and four grandchildren.
Services were held last week at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brainerd. Inurnment was in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church altar.
Lillian I. Ekholm, Services were held last week for Lillian I. Ekholm. Ekholm, who had made her home in Proctor for about 60 years, died Sat., Dec. 22, 2001 in Duluth. She was 96.
She was born in Two Harbors, where she grew up and attended school. She moved to Proctor in the 1940’s and worked as a waitress at Gustafson’s Bakery in Duluth for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Lillian is survived by brothers Robert and Bert Keller of Two Harbors and Walter Keller of Tacoma, Wash., sisters Vivian Carlson and Mary Bjorum of Two Harbors, grandchildren Bunny Bergstrom of St. Michael, Marcia Peacock of Bayfield, Ailene (Rod) Raduenz of Finlayson, Charles (Mary Jo) Danielson of Milaca, Arthur Jr. (Carol) Danielson of Farmington and Sally Ann Gatewood of Walker, 11 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors.
Samuel B. Eales, Samuel B. Eales passed away Dec. 11, 2001 at his home in St. Paul, after a long illness. He was 89.
Samuel was born in Proctor to John Bird and Willimina Eales. He graduated from Proctor High School, and retired from Northwest Airlines where he was employed as a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and a stepson Mike.
He is survived by his wife Josephine, son Martin and daughter Bette Larson, both of Duluth, a stepson George (Barb) Hamer of St. Paul, a sister Lenora Lamoureux of Brainerd, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Private services were held at St. Genevieve’s Cemetery, Centerville, MN.
